Throwing Club2919/16

Long wooden throwing club, rounded, thick at the head and narrowing toward the handle. While the handle is smooth and unpainted, the head of the club is carved with protruding notches and long ridges and decorated with painted patterns of dots, lines and colour blocks.

Throwing Club2919/14

Wooden throwing club with a thick head narrowing toward a long, thin handle. The head is oblong in shape while the handle is round. Slight ridges encircle the whole of the object and several chips have been taken out of the head. The surface is dark brown and somewhat shiny.

A sharp point, painted dark orange, flares into a midsection delicately carved into five thin, down-pointing blades and one short, thicker up-pointing blade on each side. The blades are elaborately painted in multiple colours, with patterns of lines, dots, and colour blocks. The handle is long and tapered, also painted dark orange.

Wooden plaque painted red with carved designs painted yellow. Three figures stand at the bottom of the scene; a human male in the centre holding a sword and two animalistic figures on either side of him with their arms raised, revealing claw like hands. Above them is a large Ba Gua symbol, with a crown-like symbol on top. Surrounding the Ba Gua are Chinese symbols. The back of the plaque is unpainted.

Rectangular wooden plaque painted red with two carved figures riding animals. Both wear gold tunics with dark brown collars, red pants, and gold hats. The female rider is distinguished by her green earrings. The male rider's hat has two circles on either side that stick out. The male is riding a horse? that is painted yellow with black facial features. The female is riding a crane? with a yellow body, black legs and a triangular black beak. There are gold curtains above the figures, set in a rectangular frame in the plaque. The back of the plaque is unpainted.

Carved wooden male figure, seated on a red chair. Figure wears a gold tunic with off-white and green collar and a hat or headdress which extends down the length of his back. He has very large round eyes, thick eyebrows and a prominant moustache. Both hands rest on his knees. There are Chinese characters written on the back of the chair.
