Frontlet Headdress709/1

Ermine headdress attached to a wooden frontlet. Frontlet in painted in blue, red and black with a central figure of a humanoid face with protruding, hooked nose encircled by a red-lined ring of abalone. Two faces, one humanoid and mask-like, the other round and black with red lips, sit atop and below the main face. The eyes of all three faces are inlaid with abalone. The frontlet is attached to the front of a circular white fur cap, attached to a long train (90 cm) of white ermine pelts with brown tails sewn onto a length of white fabric backing. A vertical row of brown whiskers protrude from the cap directly behind the top of the frontlet.

Staff1003/37

Wooden staff with elaborate, undulating carved designs. Top of staff is spherical with sinuous descending carved ridges. Centre of staff features a raised black snake with two serpentine carved ridges on the opposite side, echoing the snake's shape. Directly underneath the snake--marking the bottom third of the staff--is a ring of raised elliptical shapes.

Headdress1398/1

Wooden thunderbird headdress with an orange beak, red mouth and nostrils, and black, white and red ears and face. Top edge of headdress is ringed with braided brown and dyed, red cedar bark. Top of headdress between the two ears are tightly packed vertical strands of brown and red cedar bark and brown and white feathers.

Bentwood Box1182/1 a-b

A rectangular wood box on a flat base with a lid (part a) that fits on top. The sides of the box and lid are painted with red and black stylized creatures. There are two carved faces on the either sides of the lid with black eyes and eyebrows and a red mouth. The base, top, and sides of the box are made of red cedar; the faces are carved of alder and inset into the cedar, held in place with small wooden dowels. While there may be commercial paints used on the outside, the inner part is painted with a mineral-based paint made of red ochre.

Mask685/3

Portrait mask. Light brown wooden human face mask, with a tuft of sheep's wool and two eagle feathers affixed to the centre of the forehead. Black elongated eyebrows run close to the mask's edge. An l-shaped band of blue paint runs down one side of the face and across the eyes and bridge of the nose. The bottom portion of the nose, the lips and chin are painted a red-brown colour; the same colour is applied in short, repeated strokes above both eyes.
