Black goat fur helmet with shaved areas for eyes and mouth. Nose is of wood and is triangular, affixed between the eyes. Eyes and mouth are painted; eyes are black, mouth is red; eyes have many small holes through near centre. Top of helmet is formed from folded over hide that is held in place by fibre cord.

Flat fan made of finely-split bamboo flaring out from its attachment point to a long wooden handle painted black. Perimeter of fan is shaped like a double inverted U. The lower edge where the handle is attached is straight and at right angles to handle. Fan is covered with yellow lacquered paper on both sides. The area surrounding the handle on one side is covered with a black paper cut in a floral pattern, and the area immediately surrounding the handle is painted orange. The fan has a narrow edging of black paper. It is inserted into a split in the handle, which is flat and shaped like a pointed oval where it covers the fan, which is attached with a rivet.

Fan is covered with lacquered paper with a design of three swirls converging at the centre, coloured red, green, and yellow. It has a narrow edging of black paper. The fan is inserted into a split in the handle, which is flat and shaped like a pointed oval where it covers the fan, which is attached with two rivets. The shape of the handle is repeated with an outline of orange paint on the fan.

Bamboo strips are bent downwards near the perimeter of fan, those on each side bending away from centre strip. Perimeter of fan is circular except for the lower edge where the handle is attached, which is straight and at right angles to handle. Fan is covered with brown oiled paper, with a narrow edging in black. The fan is inserted into a split in the handle, which is flat and shaped like a pointed oval where it covers the fan, which is attached with two rivets. The area surrounding the handle is covered on each side with a black paper cut in a floral pattern. The area immediately surrounding the handle is painted orange.

Canoe Prow2546/1

Partly painted and partly burnt canoe prow fragment. Made up of two large pieces and one smaller, held together by nails. The outside of the prow is charred black at the burnt end, and is edged with thick vertical white bands toward the front, then a section of light brown wood with sporadic patches of black paint, and ends in a point that is painted pink. The inside is partly charred, and has irregular patches of light brown wood and flaking pink paint.
