Carving2609/1

Carving made from the root and trunk of a birch tree. A bust of a person with headdress has been attached to the base with a metal peg. The eyes of the figure have been filled in with a white paint and a single black bead. The base has heads of two animals sticking out from the burl. Carving stands on three leg-like protrusions. Two circular and one oblong hole have been carved deeply into the top of the base.

Puppet2607/2

Female tuxw'id puppet with cotton-stuffed white cloth body and carved wooden head, hands and feet. Unsewn strips of red fabric are tied around her neck, wrists and ankles. The face is marked by brightly painted red lips, black pupils and thick painted black eyebrows. Coarse black hair extends in tufts from holes covering the top and back of the head; it is braided and secured with a hair elastic. The head of the puppet also acts as a rattle.

Carved wooden wolf mask with a long snout painted red and black with white edging. The muzzle was hinged to the lower jaw and is now nailed shut. The face has white edging around the green ovoid with black eyes on white background. The head of the mask has been covered with a piece of hide. Ears are attached to the top of the head and are decorated with black spots. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of carved, rectangular shaped handle used to hold the mask when worn. The handle is tied to the rim of the mask with twine. The mask is painted black, green, red and white with stylized designs.

Rattle2600/63

Gourd rattle with seeds(?) inside. The wooden handle of the rattle has been painted orange-brown to match the colour of the gourd. The gourd is painted green, red and purple in diamond, heart(?) and leaf shapes, edged with a zigzag etching. The band across the centre of the gourd reads, 'SOUVENIR DE BARRANQUILLA'. A hook is screwed into the end of the handle and a metal plug is in the top of the gourd.

Plaque2600/14 a-h

Set of 8 plaques in two sizes. All are elongated boards with a series of jutting edges, depicting the stylized figure of a spirit familiar. The four larger plaques (parts a-d) have a stylized head on each end, no features. Their bodies are painted with geometric designs of zigzags and dots, painted in brown and pink. The four smaller plaques (parts e-h) have similar designs in brown only, along with a painted image of a simplified human figure. Painted decorations are on one side only. Each plaque was tied to one of four poles, each time a red one and a black one, opposing each other.

Dance Staff2596/6

Large figure head mounted on a wooden staff. Figure appears to have a wooden core, covered with clay and cobwebs. Vibrant blue, red and white paint cover the main surface of the face. Figure has a cone-shaped head wrapped with coir rope, protruding cylinder eyes and a long red nose. Two boar tusks curl upwards at each side of his mouth. Three vertically striped birds stick out from his forehead. Sticks with wound tufts of bushy grass fibres hang down over his ears.
