Rattle1258/2

Bulbous, elliptically shaped wooden rattle with straight, thick handles protruding from both ends. Each handle has a flat knob-like end and string spooled around it--a fibrous cord runs around the rattle from one handle to the other. The rattle itself is painted with two faces in red, black and white.

A female wood puppet with black hair wearing a hair accessory. She has a blue, green, red and gold-coloured floral embroidered dress with a beige top rimmed with yellow and a peach-coloured skirt with a black belt decorated with yellow leaf-like flaps. Her shoes are painted red. Attached is a marionette wood handle with strings. There is a metal needle pinned through the bottom of her skirt.

A red face wearing a red headdress with three circles within each other in the middle and having a spiral at each side around all of which there is an outlining row of circles with a feather-like carved rim. There is an ornate decoration behind each ear which has a loop earring. A necklace with two rows is carved on the neck. A red string goes through two holes at either sides.

The plain brown face has circular cut out hole eyes outlined by black and surrounded by a tapering oval outlined by black and a red area above and around the eyes with triangular, black brows above. The nostrils are red. The open mouth and the area below it are red. There are five black hairlines at either top side with a red spot in between them.

Carved mask of a human face. The green-brown face has semi-circular cut out hole eyes outlined by black and surrounded by a white tapering oval and an area around the eyes in suggestion of an ovoid shape with wide black brows above. The large protruding nose has the nostrils cut out. The open red mouth is showing ten white bared upper teeth. The moustache and the goatee are skin pieces. Wrinkles are carved in the forehead and in the cheeks. Skin and leather tongs are attached.

Large rectangular bentwood dish with an undulating rim and painted designs in black and red, on sides and ends. Wide red band around rim is faded. The dish has three kerfed corners and is pegged together with 7 nails at the fourth corner. The base is pegged to the sides with nails.
