Carved wooden Noh mask of "Kurohige". Deeply carved face with painted black moustache, beard and eyebrows. The skin is painted gold with dark grey and gold teeth. It has protruding gold eyes and red lips and tongue. Its lower jaw is jutting outwards and its nostrils are flared. There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through a small hole at each side. There are holes carved in the eyes, mouth, and nostrils. The back of the mask is dark brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark. Part b is a fabric bag for part a, decorated in orange, gold, green and blue. The inside of the bag is a dark yellow fabric, written on with black ink Japanese characters. The bag closes with yellow cloth ties.

Carved wooden Noh mask of “Yakan”. Deeply carved face with two horns, a large lump on its forehead, and a wide mouth with gold fangs. Painted with straggly hair and whiskers, and its large eyes are gold. The skin is a greyish-taupe colour and the lips are red. There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through small holes at each side. There are holes carved in the eyes, nostrils and mouth. The back of the mask is dark brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark. Part b is a tan fabric bag for part a, decorated with silk embroidery in various shades of green, orange and gold. The inside of the bag is white fabric, with black ink Japanese characters written on the flap. The white ties on the bag also have black Japanese characters and a small red maker’s mark. In addition to the fabric ties there is a flexible paper strip which also has Japanese characters inscribed on it.

Carved wooden Noh mask of “Ko-tobide”. Deeply carved face with two bulging gold eyes, and a wide mouth showing teeth. Painted with straggly hair, moustache and eyebrows. The skin is a greyish-peach colour and the lips are red. There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through small holes at each side. There are holes carved in the eyes, nostrils and mouth. The back of the mask is dark brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark. Part b is a light green fabric bag for part a, decorated with embroidery in various shades of green and brown. The inside of the bag is white fabric, with black ink Japanese characters. The white ties on the bag also have black Japanese characters written on them and a small red maker’s mark. In addition to the fabric ties there is a flexible paper strip which also has Japanese characters inscribed on it.

Carved wooden Noh mask of “Hanakoba-akujo”. It has a painted white eyebrows and hair, and a moustache and beard made of real hair. The skin is painted taupe with a red mouth and gold teeth. It has large bulging eyes and bared gold teeth. The face and forehead are heavily creased. There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through small holes at each ear. There are holes carved in the eyes, mouth and nostrils. The back of the mask is dark red-brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark. Part b is a green fabric bag for part a. It is decorated with a pattern of birds and flowers made of brown and green silk. The inside of the bag is white fabric, written on with black ink Japanese characters. The bag closes with white cloth ties.

Painted with hair, a curled moustache and beard, as well as large eyebrows. The skin is a reddish-orange colour and the lips are red. There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through small holes in each ear. There are holes carved in the eyes, nostrils, and mouth of the face. The back of the mask is dark brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark. Part b is a light tan fabric bag for part a, decorated with silk embroidery in various shades of green and brown. The inside of the bag is white fabric, written on with black ink Japanese characters.

A carved wooden Noh mask of “O-beshimi”. Deeply carved male face with protruding gold eyes and a closed mouth. Painted with hair, curled moustache and beard, as well as large eyebrows. The skin is a reddish-orange colour and its thin lips are red. There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through small holes through each ear. There are holes carved in the eyes and nostrils. The back of the mask is dark brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark in red. Part b is an orange and black fabric bag for part a, decorated with a pattern of x’s and o’s The inside of the bag is purple fabric, which has been written on with black ink in Japanese characters. The bag closes with purple cloth ties.

Carved wooden Noh mask of “Kawazu”. Painted thin, black moustache and beard, as well as eyebrows and stringy hair. The skin is painted greyish-beige with dark grey teeth. It has small sunken gold and red eyes in deep sockets, and red lips. Its cheeks are hollowed. There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through small holes at the sides. There are holes carved in the eyes, mouth, and nostrils. The back of the mask is dark red-brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark. Part b is a bag made of yellowish-grey fabric, to hold part a. It is decorated with a floral pattern in pink, black, purple, and blue. The inside of the bag is white fabric with a floral pattern, written on with black ink in Japanese characters. The bag closes with white cloth ties.

The skin is painted yellowish-grey, the teeth are black and yellow, and its lips are red. There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through small holes at each side. There are holes carved in the eyes, mouth, and nostrils. The backside of the mask is dark brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark. Part b is a dark brown fabric bag for part a, decorated with a pattern of birds and flowers in blue, brown and gold. The inside of the bag is white fabric, written on with black ink in Japanese characters. The bag closes with white cloth ties.

There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through small holes at the temples. There are holes carved in the eyes, mouth and nostrils. The backside of the mask is dark brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark. Part b is a fabric bag for part a, decorated with a floral and geometric pattern in various shades of blue and gold. The inside of the bag is turquoise fabric, written with black ink in Japanese characters. The bag also has a circular button covered in gold fabric, and a loop for closing.

There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through small holes at the temples. There are holes carved in the eyes, nostrils, and mouth. The back is dark brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark. Part b is a fabric bag for part a, decorated with silk embroidery in various shades of pink, cream and light bluish-grey. It has a floral pattern and two horizontal stripes. The inside of the bag is white fabric, with written black ink Japanese characters. The white ties on the bag also have black Japanese characters written on them and a small red maker’s mark.
