Bentwood BoxA8390 a-b

Bentwood box (part a) and lid (part b) with one side pf lid raised. Box has abstract Northwest Coast design elements painted on all sides, in red and black. Cedar bark rope is tied around the box. Killer whale and sisiutl-like designs in black on the top of lid and the raised portion.

Long and narrow wooden cradle, with a high rounded top and legs that would make it rock. The sides and the foot end were steam bent and nailed to the top end. All of the exterior sides are decorated with a Northwest Coast distributive design painted green, orange and back. The image is of a sisiutl with the central face at the foot end and the two serpents down each of the long sides. There is a wooden bar across inside at head.

Figure with elaborate feathered headdress that has semicircular shape and radiating step design in red, blue, yellow, white and black. The figure's V-shaped face is white with a black, red and blue geometric design, its cloak is white with bands of red and black, its dress has a black scale and line pattern with a black painted fringe on the bottom, and the figure is wearing blue boots with a red design. Inscriptions on bottom of garment.

Basketry TrayA2273

Round, brown tray of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with watch-spring construction. Partial imbrication. The sides are three splint rows with a wrapped border. Interior of the basket has three concentric divisions and an inner row of grass and then two rows of alternating black cherry bark and grass repeated. Between these, there are nine diagonal lines in red, then nine shapes in red, then twenty "X" shapes in red with grass inside.
