D-shaped wooden handle with carved dog-like features at one end, and a pointed tail-like feature at the other. The handle grip bulges at the centre. The upper portion of the wooden handle is long, and then tapers on each side to the lower portion where it attaches to the blade. The repurposed axe blade has an 8 cm eye for a haft. The blade is attached to the handle by two nails - one at each end.
Bentwood box with faded painting. Interior sides and base blackened. Square-shaped with three kerfed edges. The seam and base attached with pegs. No lid.
Carved cedar bear figure in an upright seated position. Bear is mostly black with dark reddish-brown and natural wood details. The bear has a long snout with two large circular red nostrils, and lower teeth bared. There are two large squared-off ears on top of the head, and two large black brows. The left paw is open with pad facing front, while the right paw is closed. A small frog is carved, facing upward, on the stomach. Base is flat, raw wood.
Rounded oval wooden rattle comprised of two complementary parts, with painted designs. Sides held together by twisted fibre wrapped around the handle. One side has a zoomorphic face with straight, bared teeth and ears extending upwards. The other side has a face with large circular eyes and ears extending upwards. Designs on both sides painted in black, red and dark green.
Model boat with figures and paddles. Boat (part a) is long and thin, narrowing toward ends, wider at midpoint. A black whale is painted on both sides of each end at the waterline. Bow is slightly taller than stern, with a protruding red piece at front. 11 benches span the width of the boat’s interior, each with a single figure seated upon it. One figure on a bench is separated from the boat (part b). Figures are painted with black hair, eyes and brows, most with green shirts, two with no shirt but green pants. Each holds a small loose paddle (parts c to l) balanced in their upheld hands. Paddles are painted with a green tip, dot and band.
Painted dogfish mask with oval-shaped face. The mask is carved from a single piece of wood. The dogfish has a large mouth, jagged teeth, and a long red tongue. The arched form above the head is incised with three curved gill slits and two circles. There are also four gill slits on each side of the face. Back has 'HAIDA ART' and signature 'Reid' incised near top. (On the back two eye screws are strung with picture wire and a third, larger eye screw is loosely attached to the wire.)
Wooden bear face mask. Bear has large circular black eyes surrounded by a tapering black oval, outlined in red. Eyes sit in slightly sunken hollows, above which are prominent black brows. Red split U within black U form ears, curling red nostrils, and a red tongue sticking out. 'HAIDA ART' and Reid's signature carved into base of mask and again on the back. (The back has two eye screws strung with wire, for hanging.)
Painted wooden face mask, grouse. Most of the mask is painted with black designs with natural wood exposed in the negative space. Nostrils and lips are red, and eye sockets are grey.
Mai mask. Carving of face is long and narrow, with a pointed head, a ridge running from forehead to nose, and a thick jaw area. A thin piece of shaped wood spans area from chin to bottom of mask. Face is painted in swirl and linear patterns in red, white and black. Jaw is covered in shells inset into mud, with layers of feathers and twisted plant fibre along chin and mask bottom. A collection of twine, feathers and grass is tied through a hole at top, creating a loop for hanging. Interior of mask is concave.
Raven rattle. Rattle in the shape of a brid with figures on its back, made of two pieces of wood that are held together by a braided cord coiled around the handle. The top end of the rattle is carved into a bird's head; the round belly has a face carved on it, with a hooked nose in relief. On the raven's back is a carved reclining figure and a bird head with a long beak above. (Interior likely holds pebbles, beads or lead shot.)
