Drum3677/11

Heavy, tall wooden drum. Somewhat hourglass-shaped, with a smaller lower section. Skin stretched over the wider end, held by leather strip nailed around edge. The side has vertical lines of twisted animal skin with cowrie shells attached uniformly, which attaches to a metal ring. Hollow wooden base, which has lightly marked lines around the sides and circular marks with holes in the centre that follow the lines. Twisted fibre loop sits loose around the foot. Twisted fibre handle attached to one side.

Funerary Mask3677/2

Oval-shaped face mask with protruding forehead. The the ridge of the forehead extends into a long, triangular nose. The eyes extend out and have horizontal openings, and there is a protruding downward peg for the mouth. Painted red on forehead and eyelids, and white from under eyes to chin, with some light blue spots showing in both areas. Small holes line the forehead. Three slanted lines carved on both cheeks.

Retablo Altar3678/6

Brightly painted portable retablo box altar with two doors that open to reveal a two-level religious scene. The doors have leather hinges, and are painted on both sides with blue, green and yellow floral designs on white backgrounds. The two levels have small painted plaster figures and animals arranged into two scenes. The top of the box is triangular, with a painted blue cross. The exterior of the box is painted yellow.

The painting depicts a male figure standing at centre, holding a staff in his hands at and angle in front of his torso. He wears a cloak with black and white ruffled cuffs. He wears a black hat and tall red boots. He stands among three sheep, with a similarly dressed figure lying down at his feet. There is a white building with red roof in the background, on the right. Painting of the virgin Mary holding a child and a sceptre. Mary is depicted wearing a red gown with gold brocading, and lace-trimmed sleeves. On her chest she wears a red and gold emblem of the Mercedarian order. Both Mary and child wear broad-brimmed black pilgrim hats with white feathers. Mary holds a gold sceptre in her left hand, and child in her right. They appear to be on a red and gold seat. Painted on a board, in a carved wooden frame.

Water Buffalo Headdress3677/1

Bull, or water buffalo, headdress or mask. Carved and painted with off-white and blue designs, with orange-red inside the ears and hollow, traingular snout area. The horns form a closed circle at the top, with small notched ears projecting from the sides next to the horns. There are mirrored white triangles at the base of the horns, and a large white triangle on the forehead. The head section is round, and hollowed out at the back, with large white circular eyes on top. Repeating white triangles line the edge of the face and snout, with two rows of smaller white triangles across the base of the snout.

Large stone multi-figure carving, with walrus tusk projections standing upright at each side (parts b-c). Tusks are incised with drawings and attach to stone with wooden dowels. One tusk (part b) is incised with four brown ink drawings on one side: fish, loon, person, walrus; the other side has three harpoons and syllabics in brown. The other tusk (part c) is incised on both sides with black ink drawings. One side has a seal, bird, 2 wolves, and walrus; the other side has drawings of three types of clothing (k'arlik, koliktar, amautik).

Carved wooden sculpture of whale, painted on a rounded, rectangular painted base with a tall dorsal fin. The fin has two carved and painted humanoid figures carved and painted on the sides of the fin, with their hands are carved, as if holding onto the edges. Mainly painted black, with red and pale blue design elements.
