Sandals3600/11 a-b

Pair of rubber sandals with V-shaped straps; straps threaded through cuts in insoles and nailed down. Soles are flat, rounded at toes and heel; centre of insole is dark brown, edges and sole are black. Straps are red leather and have patterned bands across surfaces. Pattern alternates between rectangles with red and orange stripes and checkers, and blue rectangles with repeating gold hourglass-like shapes. Section of strap holding tip of V to insole is plain leather; plain leather tie secured to V with white and red knob.

Mask3600/3

Carved mask depicting a humanoid face; made from a thin piece of wood. Face has a small thin nose, in between protruding eyes; eyes are within large, raised circles. Lower half of mouth protrudes slightly; rectangular cutout for mouth directly underneath nose. Forehead is tall and triangular; scalloped lines carved in relief down length of forehead. Two lines incised across cheeks; lines and scallops are filled with red and beige pigment(?). Holes drilled into either side of mask; interior is hollowed. (Tag looped through hole next to right eye; plastic tie threaded through holes, for hanging purposes.)

Carved wooden mask depicting a humanoid face, wearing an elaborate coiffure. Face has a short thin nose over small puckered mouth; eyes are partially closed and rest underneath raised semi-circular eyebrows. Small ears extend from either side of head; chin circled with protruding triangles, with cutouts in centres. Rectangle, with ridges across front, extends from bottom centre of chin. Small patches of raised cross-hatching on cheeks and next to ears; raised circles carved underneath eyes. Coiffure has a tall arch in the middle, with horn-like protrusions that wrap around base of arch before pointing downward, on either side of head; pin-like carving pierces front of coiffure. Entire coiffure is decorated with incised lines. Sides of mask have braided plant fibre threaded through them; interior is hollowed. (Plastic tie threaded across back centre of mask, for hanging purposes.)

Carved wooden mask depicting red humanoid face. Short black ridge wraps around top edge of head; diagonal lines incised throughout, imitating hair. Rectangles protrude from either side of face, imitating ears; triangles carved in relief across surface, done in white and blue. Face has a long thin nose over protruding lips; eyes are partially closed and rest underneath semi-circular eyebrows. Large bird perched on top of white and blue column, protruding from top edge of mask. Bird is white with blue and yellow highlights; has an orange beak and large black crest. Sides of mask are undecorated and have holes drilled into them; mask is hollowed.

Carved wooden mask depicting a humanoid face with a prominent brow; rounded ridge runs down lower half of brow, extending into thin nose. Face smoothly curves outward into a protruding chin; trapezoid-shaped mouth along outer edge, teeth carved in relief. Incised linear motifs across forehead, cheeks, and above eye slits. Two curved horns extend from either side of mask, square protrusions underneath horns; horns decorated with cross-hatching, squares have tiered rectangles across surface. Two cylinders extend from top of mask, framing an inverted triangle with horizontal bars on its front. Sides of mask have holes drilled into them; interior is hollowed.

Drum3577/7

Double-headed conical drum. The animal hide stretched over both ends. The hide has white and reddish brown hair. Thin strips of skin are used to stitch the two skins together, leaving a zigzag pattern around the wooden centre. Thin strips of skin are twisted to create a handle on the side.

Lyre3577/8

Lyre with a wooden sound chamber covered in leather skin; skin secured with wire. Triangular wood frame extends from top of sound chamber, made up of two arms inserted through the leather and connected at the top by a crossbar. The crossbar is rectangular on either end, with notches that the arms are inserted into, and a cylindrical centre where the strings are attached. Three strings are fastened to three wooden pegs and lashed around the crossbar. The strings are fastened across the front of the sound box to a wire loop. All components of lyre are darkened to dark brown with the exception of the strings.

Knife3577/17 a-b

Long dagger (part a) with leather sheath (part b). Dagger has a long curved blade and a wooden handle. The handle is wrapped with thin brass-coloured wire, with silver-coloured buttons inserted. The pommel ends with a small wooden bowl. The double-edged blade is shaped like an asymmetrical leaf. The sheath (part b) is made of wood wrapped in leather, which is stitched along a centre seam. The sheath has a belt with a circular metal buckle.

Hand Plough3577/19

Wooden hand plough. Two long pieces of wood are inserted through a round centre piece. One end, the handle, is lashed together with plant fibre near the end, and another twisted plant fibre midway down, and the opposite ends are inserted into two metal blades. A third piece of wood, that is slightly S-shaped, is inserted through the round centre piece at an angle. This piece of wood is further attached by a length of skin which is tied to the other two pieces of wood.
