Transformation MaskA3546 a-b

Wooden, carved, transformation mask (in parts a-b - two sides no longer attached) with wolf on the outside and a thunderbird(?) on the inside. The face of the wolf has black edging with red nostrils and teeth. The eyes are black with white edging on a green ovoid-like shape background. One ear is attached to the top of the head and is decorated with an ovoid and split U shapes (part a). The inside of the mask is hollow with black painted thunderbird(?) with red detailing on a white background. The mask is painted black, red, green and white with stylized designs.

WhistleA3542

Brown wood double whistle made of two single whistles with one shorter than the other bound together by brown string. Both pieces are rectangular in cross section and come to a tapering end. The shorter piece is bound by string in two sections, one near each end while the longer piece is bound by string in three sections, one near each end and one near the middle. While the wider end is solid on each piece, there is a hollow (two in total) through the tapering end where there is a taper cut semi-oval hole (two in total) nearby on one side.

Bentwood BowlA3563

Bentwood dish. Rim is curved convex and concave with operculum shells inlaid along upper edges. The last corner is pegged together and the bottom is pegged to the sides. Adzed fluting on the sides and ends. Wide band of vertical stripes carved along rim, with "x" on the centre of the ends.

Ceremonial dagger. Bulbous wooden handle, embellished by two round skulls with sunken eyes and nostril and teeth grooves that are nailed to either side of a dark coloured triangular shaped piece that then holds the rectangular metal blade and is secured with two nails.

Carved wooden, crooked beak mask. The beak has long, exaggerated, protruding nostrils with two large u-shaped openings in the front; many incised white s-shaped forms behind it. Running from the brow is a large, protruding, central black and white circular frill that projects upwards and curves downwards to the middle of the beak. The mouth is red, flat, wide and protruding. The underside of the beak is black; hinged with rectangular pieces of rubber. The eyes are black ovoids on an ovoid shaped ground; the brow is black. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of pieces of fibre twine to articulate the beak. Attached to the top are many small cedar bundles with a piece of eagle down intertwined. The mask was painted black, red and white with Northwest Coast stylized forms but is mostly black due to being burnt by fire.
