Box3131/9 a-b

Oblong bentwood box with lid. Small box (part a) is made of a single piece of bark curved into a long rounded shape, around a wooden base, with edges connected by stitchings of leather. Several small nails attach the bark to the base. Bottom interior has remnants of paper that had been glued to it. Exterior shows very faded black and red linear designs and swirls across the surface. Lid (part b) is of similar shape and construction with adhesive attaching the bark to the wooden top. Design is a black dotted line around red and black leaf shapes and triangles.

Basket3131/6 a-b

Basket with lid. Basket is round, with a wide shoulder that narrows toward a narrower mouth at top, and a smaller base. The exterior is decorated with cherry bark imbrication in a repeating lightning design in alternating bolts of dark and light brown. The interior bottom is imbricated in a butterfly wing design of triangles in three shades of brown bark. The lid (part b) is slightly domed, with an inset lip and is topped with a round handle at centre. Handle is held to the lid by a short length of white rope attached to a small piece of wood on the underside. Lid is similarly decorated with the repeating lightning design.

Carved wooden club. Blade is a long leaf shape, increasingly thick toward the centre on both sides where a line runs down the spine from tip to hilt. Swirling foliage is carved into the surface, a natural light brown colour in crevices, with the surface painted a dark brown or black. The grip on the hilt is undecorated, smooth and rounded, Pommel is in the shape of a bird's head with patterning carved along back and top, under which is a large eye and curved, blunt beak.

Carved wooden club. Weapon is thin with tapering edges and a smooth finish. Head is kidney shaped, with a wide top and a sharply indented curve above a protruding carved figure of a human/bird amalgamation in a sitting position. Figure’s head is large and round, with deeply inset eyes, and a large sharp beak from which emerges a tongue that curves down to make contact with the figure's chest. Arms are bent, hands resting on stomach. Legs are bent at the knees and feet dangle. The handle of the club is short and narrow, culminating in a pommel carved into two circles, one with inset beads of abalone shell on each side at centre, the other with a hole through which is tied a small thong of leather.

String Puppet3129/2 a-b

Puppet of a standing man (Minister character or wun) wearing robes. The figure is made of wood overlaid with an elaborate suit of clothing that includes a light green silk under-tunic and dark green velvet coat edged in a panel of silk heavily embroidered with metallic thread. A canvas sash falls across his torso, embellished with metal sequins and a large jewel at centre. On his head is a rounded hat decorated in velvet, canvas and sequins. Purple pants clothe his legs. The puppet's feet are bare and painted dark brown, as are his hands and head. His face contains inset plastic eyes, a plastic gem earring hanging from the left ear, a moustache of hair, and a moveable chin. Thick string is attached to the hands, elbows, feet, knees and head, leading back to a wooden controller. Part b is a wooden stand with a thick base and decorative post.

String Puppet3129/1 a-c

Puppet of Garuda (mythological bird character). The figure is made of wood overlaid with an elaborate suit of clothing that is fully covered in pewter-coloured sequins, gold metallic thread and beading. Shoulders and elbows of the outfit are padded and pointed, with a heavy coat tail, and long front flap decorated with coloured, jewel-like buttons. The figure's feet and hands are painted thickly in gold, as is the moveable head. The face shows a curved beak with long canine teeth emerging, large pointed ears, and a tall conical hat painted gold. Small shiny stones are embedded in an even pattern across the head and hat. Part b is a gold dagger also covered in gold with inset stones. The weapon fits inside the figure's closed right fist. Thick string is attached to the figure at wrists, upper arms, knees, ankles and head, leading back to a wooden controller. Part c is a wooden stand painted burgundy, with a thick base and decorative post with two horizontal pins that hold the figure under the arms to display it in a standing position.

Small carved stone figure. Large round head shows a sharp protruding nose, slightly bulging eye area with slits for eyes, and a slit for mouth. Ears are large hollows. The back of the head is stippled with small holes. Neck is carved with encircling lines, above bent arms with hands that join over the torso. Legs of the figure have broken off. Surface has been covered with orange mud that remains in the crevices.

Stone figure with a large, long, flat head, a shallow hole bored at top centre, above a protruding face with large ears, large prominent nose, inset bulging eyes over round cheeks, and a wide mouth above a receding chin. The body is small, carved to suggest a crouched position with knees to the front. Yellow mud has been applied over the surface and has settled thickly into crevices.
