Mask3323/1

Carved and painted wood mask. Dome-shaped head with two large curved horns - one orange, and the other off-white. Below the horns, on either side, are two large folded ears. On top of the dome, two small raised circular eyes, separated by a triangular design, which extends into a large human-like nose. The flat mouth is wider the the head, and has a wide opening between the jaw. Two holes are drilled through the rim of the mask on each side, with a string tied through the top two holes.

Friction Oracle Figure3321/11

Animal figure made of wood, with a long, flat, and slightly concave back. The head has carved eyes and ears, and an open mouth; the tail is bushy and turned down. The sides of the body are decorated with carved geometric patterns. A length of twisted plant fibre is tied around the neck and tail, with a small hourglass-shaped piece of wood wrapped in the middle.

Kkokdu (꼭두) or wooden figure of a musician with a hand drum. Carved from wood and painted. Figure has a white face, with a sad expression. The black hair is tied neatly on top of the head in a bun. They wear a bright orange top with white ties, and blue pants. A burgundy with black and yellow drum is held in the left hand, and a matching burgundy stick in the right hand. The feet are a yellow pedestal. Mounted on a wood dowel and base.

Pair of matching wooden phoenix figures or kkokdu (꼭두), carved and painted. Each depicts a phoenix from the neck upwards. The phoenix has a yellow neck with black and red zigzag designs, and yellow, green, and red feathers extending out from the back of the head. Extending from its white head are a large red comb and wattle, which has a hole drilled horizontally through. The eyes are almond-shaped, and the small beak is black. Mounted on a two-tiered wood base, with the second tier angled and painted blue-black.

Her hands are held together in front of her body. She has a long nose, and very small painted eyes and eyebrows high up on the face, as well as small red mouth. Her black hair is cut short like a bob style. Mounted on a wood dowel and base.

Kkokdu (꼭두) or wooden figure of a young single woman. Carved from wood and painted. She is wearing a long colourful skirt with vertical sections of sky blue, red, white and mustard yellow. The top has long red sleeves, sky blue around the U-shaped neckline. Her hands are held together in front of her body, with a white and yellow object at centre. She has a flat heart-shaped face, small nose, large black eyes and eyebrows, and a wide red mouth Her long black hair is braided down the length of her body. Her shoes are white with black soles, and she stands on a white octagonal platform.

The plain, brown, cylindrical handle (a) has a simple horizontal band of geometric decoration that consists of a triple outlined square at either side at one end and a pineapple-like stone head (a) at the other. The head is held in place by a woven band (b) that has a downward tapering piece of bone along one side. The head has a hollow, cylindrical hole through it for the handle. Pineapple-type. The dark head has four horizontal rows of nine pyramidal protrusions all around.

Brown wood boat shape (part a) with two detachable arms (parts b-c) at the top. Spirals and zigzag patterns filled with white clay along the boat sides (part a). Both arms taper cylindrically to a flatter shape at the top, one of which is a spiral loop decorated with zig zags (part b) and the other one of which is an oval decorated with zig zags and a central spiral on one side (part c).

Rod PuppetIb342 a-e

A three-dimensional male humanoid figure puppet. Has a large head and jointed arms attached to controlling rods. The red face is positioned straight forward and has bulging eyes with red irises, a large nose, facial hair (moustache, beard, sideburns), and details painted in black. Prominent white upper teeth with fangs extending from the top and the bottom row at each side. Wearing a Gelung supit urang headdress with diadem (jamang), sumping, Garuda Mungkur (short-tongued), and much hair from below headdress. The headdress is black, gold, red, blue, and white. Wide shoulders, a slim waist, and arms with ornaments at the wrist, and bicep in red. Skin is painted gold. Hands are held flat and bending back at the wrist. Braided hemp bandolier of green, yellow, and pink. Pink waistband and green wrapping suspended on both sides. Black velvet pentagon below waist (apron ?) with sequins, brocade, and a orange, and brown batik skirt.
