Quill Loom3109/2

Quill loom. A piece of willow wood is bent into a bow to support the weaving. At one end is attached a short strip of moosehide held in place by a pin topped with a red plastic ball. To the hide is sewn several cotton threads. Near their opposite ends, the threads pierce a thin rectangle of cardboard that keeps them separated; they are then tied to the other end of the wood. Woven into the threads are porcupine quills dyed multiple colours, creating cream-coloured diamonds on a background of alternating areas of light green, dark pink, and yellow. Borders of white and yellow line each side of the weaving. The quills have not been trimmed.

Near their opposite ends the threads pierce a small rectangle of cardboard to keep them separated, and are then tied to the other end of the willow. Woven into the threads are porcupine quills dyed multiple colours, creating patterns of 'X's and diamonds on a cream-coloured background. The quills have been cut to a length of approximately 1 cm at the back of the weaving.

Ritual Funerary Stick3104/3

Ritual funerary stick. A large, round bundle of plant fibre, wide at bottom and narrowing toward the top, densely wrapped by thin, twisted fibres coloured in wide bands of white, light brown, and dark yellow pigment. Feather down is woven into the fibre in several places, mainly around the midpoint. At top is a smooth stick of forked wood, wrapped into the body of the piece with the twisted plant fibre. It is thickly covered with yellow pigment. Two long handles of twisted fibre are attached either side, at midpoint.

Basket3103/11

Small woven round basket. Round opening, then basket widens in the middle, then tapers to a flat base. Pattern of four dark diamonds on sides. Rim is ringed with a band of alternating yellow and brown strands in between dark brown and light brown bands. Base is light brown with a ring of light brown dots around it.

Long wooden stem and stone pipe. Stem is smooth and unadorned, with a joint carved out of each end. Stone bowl is L-shaped, decorated with two incised rings at each opening and three rings at corner.

Throwing Stick2990/803

Wooden throwing stick with animal bone handle in the form of a duck and bone pin on opposite end. Gut and cotton threads binding around duck decoration. Bone pin has a band of incised lines near acute point and flat base. Cracked and worn.
