LeggingsD2.19 a-b

The leggings (part a-b) have narrow brown straps attached to a rectangular blue wool with a red seam binding on two edges and a diamond pattern in beadwork. The panel of beadwork begins underneath the brown strap in one corner and extends diagonally down the legging, finishing short of the opposite corner. Beads are sewn to form the alternating pattern of three elongated diamonds in a row with five tiny diamonds. All diamonds are blue outlined in red and the background is white. The backside of the blue leggings is without decoration. The brown wool straps have a central stripe pattern that includes two red stripes.

Leggings in three parts: a) part of a legging consisting of strips of beadwork with a geometric pattern in blue, with dark blue, green, brown and yellow sewn together on a rectangular red flannel wool backing; b) Strips of beadwork with a geometric pattern in blue, with dark blue, green, brown and yellow on red flannel backing, which is sewn onto navy wool that has a toothed edge, making a complete legging; c) a piece of navy synthetic fibre cloth with a toothed edge that has several slits cut into it and is edged with red fabric on one end (goes with part a).

Part (a) Tall, narrow coiled basket (with bifurcated stitches), with flanged lid, part (b). Parallel splint base and lid construction. Two strand twisted wool handle sewn on to basket in orange and blue, with red pom poms on ends. String through front. Fully imbricated in cat-tail grass, with "flying goose" pattern, in vertical rows, alternating rows of red and black cherry bark. One vertical row of black chevrons between two lines sit between two rows of "flying goose". Same on back and front. Side feature elongated diamond shape in black cherry bark. Cherry bark beading on rim. The lid features elongated diamond shapes, alternating in red and black cherry bark, with tips of diamond shapes located along the rim.

Baby CarrierD2.36

Beaded baby carrier, or cradle. Bead colours are dark and light blue, red, yellow, mauve, and green sewn onto a red wool blanket with sections of hide. Vertically along either side, the beadwork pattern consists of chevrons that are red at the centre bordered by yellow and dark blue on a light blue background. Across the top middle, the beadwork pattern consists of a chevron pattern that is pink at the centre bordered by dark blue on a light blue background. Across the middle, the beadwork pattern consists of vertical yellow and dark blue lines on a light blue background. Human hair, ermine, and brass decorations are also on the cradle. Ten tassels of dark brown-black hair are held in place with light and dark blue, pink, and green beads on hide. Brass decorations are vertically placed along either side. The side edges are cut out with holes.

Coiled cedar root basket with flaring sides, parallel splint base construction, several rawhide thongs and partial imbrication. Vertical striped design; tri-colour checkerboard design creating alternating red and black oblique lines within the stripe. There are four stripes per side and three per end. A rope-like cord is strung from side to side, threaded through the thong ties along the upper rim of the basket; a red, white and black wool shoulder strap pad is woven onto the centre of the cord.
