Chief's Headdress3181/1

Chief's headdress in raven's tail design. Headdress is tall and round, open at crown and topped with a thick circle of fur. The exterior is covered in black and white weaving in 'lightning' design on the sides, and 'diamond within a diamond' design at front, covered by a thick copper-shaped frontlet made of dark red glass. The interior is covered with leather. At back falls a train with the lightning weave pattern, backed by grey ultra-suede, surrounded on the sides and bottom with thick fringes of wool. Nine ermine furs, white with black tail tips, are attached to the train. The headdress can be tightened with a cord and plastic clip under the train at back.

Double sided apron. One side is thick wool in three panels with horizontal stripes of various thicknesses in bright pinks, shades of blue, green and white. The other side is a light cotton with blue and white pinstripes and small repeating motifs in darker blue. Thin cotton handles are attached at the top corners, with a pattern in brown tones.

Double sided apron. One side is thick wool in three panels, with horizontal stripes of various thicknesses in dark green, bright pink, yellow and white. The other side is also wool, with vertical black lines with a small repeating motif in red, interspersed with pinstripes in red, green and white, as well as a metallic silver thread. Apron ties are attached at top corners, and are made of brightly coloured fabric with square and diamond motifs.

Sling3174/9

Woven sling. Yak wool, in black and white, twisted and woven to create a long rope with loops at each end. At centre the rope splits and inside is placed a diamond shaped panel of brown and white weaving in the same pattern. Unprocessed yak hair, dyed dark red, decorates the sling portion as well as the larger loop at end.

Woven sling. Black and white strands of wool are twisted and woven into a long rope with a large loop at one end. Tassels of hair dyed bright red are attached to neck of loop. Several strands of unbraided white wool hang from the opposite end. At centre of rope the wool splits, and inside is stitched a diamond shaped panel of red cotton backed by patchwork wool material in green, orange, red and purple.

Female doll carved from wood, with arms articulated at the shoulders, and legs at the hips. Head is large, with carved facial features and ears, eyes and cheeks emphasized with paint. She wears a long brown cotton dress covered by a green and blue apron, with a knit brown and red shawl around her shoulders. A large metal pendant hangs from the tied closure of the shawl at her neck. Meal earrings are attached through holes in her lobes, and around her head is a metal link band decorated at front with a fabric bow. Wispy brown hair is attached to a black cap covering her head.

Male doll wearing brown wool pants with gold and green panels at back, a heavy dark blue wool sweater, a rectangular multicoloured textile in shades of red and green at the shoulders, and a light coloured bandana tied around his neck. His hat fits close to the head, with the brim flipped up in front to show a zigzag ribbon decoration and small pompoms. At crown is a tuft of metallic thread atop further ribbon and flat pompom decorations. Long decorative flaps trail down his back to the waist, brightly embroidered with figures, diamond shapes, and sequins stars, on a light cream background. A wide leather belt or pouch decorated with studs is buckled around the waist. He holds a wooden drumstick in his right hand. His shoes are small wood and leather sandals. His face is painted, showing large brown eyes, rosy cheeks, a red mouth and a dark moustache.
