Parka3415/1 a-b

Large blue fabric parka (part a) with deep front pockets. The pocket openings, hem, and cuffs are lined with two rows of white and red ricrac. Above the hem is a Delta braid. Dark blue wool inner coat (part b), with deep purple fabric lining, and wolf fur trim around hood and hem. Decorated with appliqué polar bears on each patch pocket, and two mirrored appliqué designs of a hunter in a light blue parka and red pants dragging a beluga. The manufacturer label reads, 'Handcrafted in the Canadian Arctic by the Inuvik Sewing Centre". Both inner and outer coats have heavy duty metal zippers down front opening.

Bag3448/31

Small square folded woven bag with woven strap. Edged on three sides with black, embellished with a diamond-like design in multicoloured thread. The background is dark red with a central vertical band with geometric patterns in black and grey, flanked by two smaller bands in blue and dark brown-orange. On both sides are wide dark grey-blue bands with double white lines. Extending down along the bottom of the bag is long fringe. Strap is a repeating diamond design in brown and black and edge on both sides with white beads; ends stitched to upper corners of bag.

Hammock3448/30

Long rectangular hammock made of woven fibre. The overall design is geometric designs woven in five sections of off-white with blue-grey at centre, then black-blue on either side, and then black-grey on both ends. There are three groups of three red stripes running down the length. At each end, there is long fringe bundled together at the centre.

Sash3448/24

Woven sash is long and narrow, and covered in geometric designs in off-white, burgundy, dark green, red, and light olive green. One end is finished with a straight edge, and the other end has plaited tassels, that are attached together at their ends created a tapered, rounded end.

Fragment: Garment3263/37 a-e

Five irregularly shaped fragments of a garment. Dark golden brown background with diamond designs across all fragments. Diamonds have dark brown interiors with small triangles and four zoomorphic figures inside each. Figures primarily done in dark brown, with black outlines, but there are also several figures done in white. All figures have diamond shaped eyes, long noses, one arm, two bent legs, angular tail(?), and a triangular outline around the back of their head. Several figures have their triangular outlines coloured in white. Largest fragment (part a) has two complete diamonds and a partial one along the left edge. Four figures are white, two in each of the complete diamonds. The second largest fragment (part b) has two complete diamonds. Four of the figures have their triangular outlines on the back of their heads coloured in white. The third fragment (part c) has one complete diamond and half of another along the left edge. Two figures have their triangular outlines coloured in white. The fourth fragment (part d) has one complete diamond. The smallest fragment (part e) has a single figure done in white.

Case3448/51

Case composed of a long rectangular woven textile, that has been folded in half and sewn together. The bottom edge is closed with a loop stitch in white. On one side there are eight vertical bands in red, dark olive green, mustard yellow, light blue and light green, each with four V-shaped designs embroidered in different colours. On the opposite side, there is a red rectangle at centre with two large side-by-side embroidered diamond-shaped designs with smaller shapes in the space around them. The space around the rectangle is dark beige, and has the same design embroidered throughout in a single row or column. The interior of the case is brightly coloured, which shows how much the exterior has faded.

Poncho3448/25

Poncho. A large woven textile with a vertical slit as an opening in the centre. The poncho is a deep red with three vertical columns of attached blocky diamond-shapes. The bottom edges of the front and back have long looped fringe. On both front and back, there are strings on either side of the centre opening.

Wall Hanging3457/1

A white woven wall hanging with knotted loops along the upper edge and long fringe along the lower. Fringe and loops are beige. Rows of designs spaced across entire surface. From top to bottom, the designs are: dark brown band with alternating white and light beige diamonds through the centre, vertical zigzags, plain olive green band, plain peach line, row of light beige crosses with dark brown centres, plain peach line, plain dark brown line, row of light beige crosses with dark brown centres, thick plain dark brown line. The zigzag motif is in the largest design. Central zigzag is white and is mirrored on either side by lines done in light beige, olive green, peach and dark brown. Bottom of blanket is gently curved.

Bodice3425/4 a-b

Woven bodice (part a) with embroidered band across top. At centre, there is a white diamond, with the diamond shape radiating out from the centre in black and white sideways V's. Two black fabric shoulder straps are sewn on one end, and pinned in place by safety pins on the back. The upper section of the bodice fastens at the back with metal hook and clasps, leaving the bottom fabric open and drapey. The headband (part b) matches the embroidery on the bodice. It is composed of two pieces of fabric with bilaterally symmetrical designs, stitched together on one end, and attached by three small pieces of black elastic strap on the other. The interior is lined with black fabric. A typed label with the name "Deirdre Parkes" is stitched to the lining of the front, centre.

Hand Puppet3381/44

Hand puppet of a 'Minelvina' character (doll-like in form). The fabric body is light pink. Her face is white, and facial features are drawn. She has black eyes and nostrils, and a red mouth. She wears a long, shiny white dress that is gathered at the waist. Her feet are black fabric boots. Her red-brown hair is worn down, and worn under a white veil that extends the full length of her body.
