Men’s long, A-line, long sleeved coat with high Mandarin collar. Left front extends over right front and fastens with brass ball buttons and decorative loops, located at centre front, and at the right side seam under the sleeve. Collar and left front extension are edged with decorative piping. Made of dark red coarsely woven wool textile. The textile was woven in narrow strips (about 20 cm) that are pieced together at the selvages to provide sufficient widths. All edges are faced with bias strips of light-coloured cotton or silk broadcloth (roughly 5 cm wide). Hand sewn.

Part of a woman’s ornamental headdress (see also Ee70 a-b). The headdress (called the perak) is a long (69 cm), straight, narrow (9 cm tapering to 5.5 cm) strip, shaped like a cobra snake with a broad head and long, narrow tail, made of several layers of stiffened cotton textile or felt that is covered with red cotton textile. The head of the cobra is embellished with irregularly shaped stones that have been stitched to the surface (thirty-three pieces of turquoise and green malachite, along with four pieces of agate, two of which are surrounded by rings of turquoise inlay), and two silver kagu or amulets. The body and tail of the cobra are embellished with three long, vertical rows of white cowrie shells, and there is a small brass bell at the tip of the tail. Permanently hand stitched to the left side of the tail of the perak is a rectangular piece (9.8 cm x 33 cm) of similar design, called the chuti. It is embellished with nine vertical rows of coral beads, accented with lapis and jet beads; at the top of the chuti, there is a rectangular amulet with turquoise inlay and gold leaf. An oval shaped piece of agate in a silver setting is at the base of the chuti. On the underside of the headdress, at about the middle of the tail of the perak, a strip of metallic silver mesh, reinforced by stiff cotton textile, is affixed; there is a small silver hook at one end of the mesh strip and a small brass hook at the other end. Part of a woman’s ornamental headdress that consists of two large, stiff, flat, (roughly) semi-circular pieces, each made of two layers of animal skin (probably lamb or goat), with short, dark curly hair intact, glued together back to back. The top edge of each semi-circle comes to a point, and when worn, the pieces protrude from the sides of the head, resembling large ears. The two pieces are attached together at the bottom end, and as well, are attached with a 7 cm ‘bridge’ made of twisted wool fibre at about mid-point. One side of each of these ‘ears’ is plain, without further adornment, while the reverse side is embellished at the bottom end with five rows of braided cords made of coarse wool fibre. These cords are glued or sewn onto the surface of each ‘ear,’ and then extend down the back of the wearer for approximately 116 cm; they are tied together about 57 cm from the bottom. Ee70 b is a length of loosely twisted wool yarn, with a decorative brass hook at the each end.

Purple damask jacket. The jacket has a standing collar, front pockets, side slits and a centre opening with brass frog closures. The damask silk is woven with a peony motif. The jacket is lined with yellow-white lamb’s wool.

A shallow disk-shaped wool covered basketry hat. Black on top while the underside is yellow and light red-pink. Black area is divided into four sections by a white cord and stitched on. Cords end in geometric patterns consisting of red, blue, green, yellow, brown, purple, and orange fabric circles and metallic fabrics stitched in a pattern of two star shapes stitched in each section. Underside plain with ties sewn together at chin, and having green and light purple with stitching.

A spherical metal bell with a wide split in the bottom. One half has the raised features of a human face, the other half is blank. Opposite the split is a slender shank surmounted by a loop. Smaller loops flank it. Fragments of red alpaca yarn and off-white cotton yarn remain tied through the loop.

Jacket, collarless, in the bolero style made of green wool twill with set-in sleeves gathered to wide cuffs. There are black wool diamond-shaped patches on the elbows, attached only at the corners. There is a light red/purple wool tape border around all the decorative areas: at the neck, front, bottom, cuffs, pockets, and elbows. The decorative areas include dark red-purple cotton twill tape with yellow and white rickrack appliqué and multicoloured cotton machine embroidered floral, and geometric designs. The jacket is fastened at the front by six metal hooks and eyes.

Mask depicting Pandam Paliya ("the torch-bearing apparition") with a humanoid face that is squarish in shape. The mask has bulbous eyes and nose with a wide mouth stretching across whole face. Each feature (eyes, cheeks, forehead, and nose) is a separate piece of wood wired together. Cloth covered wire outlines the back of the eyes and the bottom of left cheek. Oval mouth of red stuffed fabric wired at intervals around lips. White plastic teeth, two large protruding fangs on top row. Under nose and around mouth is a beard of black wool strands. Nose and cheeks are flesh-toned. Protruding eyes are carved on circular backgrounds with red, yellow and black petal designs on the lids. The black pupils are outlined in red. The brown wool eyebrows are knotted, tied and wired to the eyes. A label on the reverse reads, "PANDAM PALIYA: The torch-bearing appartition" in typed letters, and also a circled "7" in pencil.

Mask depicting Salu Paliya ("the shawl-clad apparition"). The mask has a fringe of dark brown hair around the top of the head, a black wool beard , and a moustache made of black knit fabric. The facial plane is rubber with eye holes cut in the cheeks, just below the eyes, and is painted black. The eyes and nose are made of wood and are nailed to the rubber. The lips are made from red cloth and tied to the rubber. The lower jaw is moveable. The separate white plastic teeth are sewn into the lips. The prominent nose is curved and painted orange-pink with a yellow and red stripe across the tip. The nostrils are flared, and the crease between the nose and nostril is defined with a black line. The eyes are discs and crescent-shaped with red and yellow eyelids that have radiating black lines. Strips of rubber are tied around centre of each lip and also serve as ties.

Sword (part a) with scabbard (part b) and cord (part c). Sword has a double-edged blade with two crescents on either side at the hilt end. Hilt is covered with brown leather decorated on each side with a star of four intersecting lines on one side and two n's on other side. Pommel is decorated with brass and steel caps superimposed on each other. Grip is covered with black leather. Scabbard is brown leather stretched and sewn over a wood frame with two brown leather rectangular straps. There are two tin bands at either end wrapped around and decorated with excised star and punched dots to make a stippled line around all edges. Chape of scabbard is tan leather and edged with tin. Cord of red and green wool with a tassel at either end is braided over a central core and knotted to the straps.
