Birthing Scene1586/1

Rectangular felt panel with figurative felt applique in two sections. Upper portion consists of eight birds on purple ground; two birds each are blue, brown, orange and black. Lower portion has two separate scenes, both on white ground: men with dogs hunting a polar bear underneath three musk oxen and a woman giving birth near the bottom of the panel. Green and pink stitching around the border.

Long, yellow-brown flute with carved holes made from a bamboo-like length of reed grass. A separate reed is fitted into the mouthpiece and secured in place with twine. Wool and cotton string are wrapped around the lower portion of the flute in two places.

Hand woven striped shawl, two selvedges, two finished edges. Two wide dark brown bands on dark red background with white diamond pattern. Narrow black stripes run through middle of each of the four patterned background bands. Pattern is interrupted by one short band of plain white. Short, black wool pants with two grey buttons down the front. The legs slightly flare out through the middle then taper in at the ends; the outer edge is longer then the inside. There are three belt loops; two on the front, one on the back. The inside waist and leg cuff seams are edged with a strip of natural coloured wool.
