Camel Bag1463/1

Large, flat, multi-coloured rectangular storage bag made of heavy, coarse wool fibre. One side of the bag is pile-woven, and the other is flat-woven. The centre design field of the pile-woven side is solidly patterned with small orange lozenge-shaped medallions, which are arranged in repeated rows on a dark red background and framed with several rows of black, orange and light brown border designs. The flat-woven side is predominantly red, with bold black, brown and orange horizontal stripes. The two sides are sewn together along three edges with brown yarn, using a blanket stitch, and there are the remains of several braided cords along one edge. There is a short red, black and orange fringe at the bottom. The top of the bag closes with a series of intertwining loops.

Unfinished Shoes1440/3 a-b

Two black wool textile panels, with dense gold embroidery shaped to form the tops and sides of a pair of shoes or slippers. There is a large floral motif centred on the top or toe section of each shoe form, and the panels that comprise the sides of the shoes are decorated with leaf and vine motifs. The embroidery is edged with narrow metallic cording. The black background textile has been trimmed from the edges of one embroidered panel, while the other is uncut.

Large brown wool blanket with woven designs and fringe. The designs in the centre band are large and small dark brown geometric crosses on light brown ground. The bands on both sides have a dark brown step pattern on cream ground and a solid dark brown band. There are fringe on all sides.

Hat made of black silk fabric with multicoloured and metallic embroidery in geometric and floral patterns. Flap at back with scalloped edge, the underside of which is orange and green checked fabric. Two strings of glass beads with metal bead ends, and two strings of glass beads with a black and vibrant pink tassel at the end of each extend down from the scalloped edge. Red wool strap extends from one side to the other.

Four Winds Hat853/3

Man’s hat. Very large, elaborately decorated hat, constructed in three tiers: 1) a 13 cm wide band of brown reindeer fur fits around the head lined with printed cotton broadcloth. This band is loosely covered by a band of red wool fabric appliqued with multi-coloured embroidered ribbon, braid, and rickrack. There is a narrow band of off-white fur at the bottom edge and twelve red, green, and yellow streamers (58 cm long) attached at the centre back; 2) above the fur, there is another band of multi-coloured ribbons, rickrack, and braid, 11 cm. wide; 3) this is surmounted by a 33 cm. band of dark blue wool fabric trimmed with multi-coloured ribbons and braid. The top is shaped into four points, (the "four-winds" hat).
