You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Loom (parts a-d) consisting of a partially completed brown and grey-white double-faced weaving on complete backstrap loom (part a). Intertwined in the weaving is a batten (parts b) and two lease sticks (parts c-d) that can be removed along with four shed rods and two heddle rods are tied to weaving. The long looping stitches attach weaving to front and back loom bars. Detailed are three horizontal rows of abstract geometric designs of beige diamonds, x’s and triangles on a brown ground. Part b is a wooden batten, trapezoidal in shape. Parts c-d are a smaller, thinner version of part b.
A loom with an incomplete textile; the shedding device is a number of narrow sticks with one hole in the centre of each which are lashed together leaving narrow spaces. This is lashed to a longer round stick. The unwoven warps are threaded through the holes and the spaces between sticks. 241 cm of unwoven warp twist together on one side of the shedding device. On the other side is 33 cm of unwoven warp and 304 cm of woven band with fringe like loops extending from one side. The band is speckled grey and the fringes alternate areas of grey with short areas of red, blue, white and green. At the junction of the woven band and unwoven warp, two weft of cross threads are attached to the textile. One is a small grey finger skein and the other is also grey but is wound on the shaft of a wooden spindle with a cone shaped whorl.
Red gathered skirt with a colourful striped waistband and lime green cording on the lower edge. Placket opening at the waist with extensions of waistband as tie closures. One pleat, parallel to hem extends around the skirt. Inside of lower edge is faced with off-white fabric.
Spindle, consisting of a wooden shaft with a cone shaped whorl near one end with a conical, wrapped section of plied yarn resting on the flat surface of the whorl. The middle of the shaft has a section of losing wound, plied yarn which is attached to a compactly wound round ball of paired yarns. The yarn wound around the shaft is tightly plied while the yarn in the ball is not plied.
Shirt of natural white wool with slash neck, stand-up collar and long, straight sleeves. The collar is embroidered at the front outside with slashes of bright coloured yarn and outlined with a red band. The front bottom of the shirt is shorter than the back. The fabric is thick and somewhat felted with some black wool woven in along the back bottom edge.
Belt with a pattern formed by a series of graduated hues ranging from light to dark and including the entire colour spectrum. Two separate colour series alternate in blocks. A single chevron band in orange, green, grey and white runs lengthwise along the centre of the belt. One end is finished with a fringe of 28 braids. Attached to both ends by red cords are narrow bands with a repeating pattern similar to the main belt.
Rectangular wooden frame loom with a partially woven dark and light brown wool textile stretched lengthwise. The frame is constructed of four pieces of round, peeled wood. Carved pegs on the ends of side pieces fit into slots on the end pieces, securing the corners. Two corners, where the wood has split, are reinforced with cord lashings. The thick, stiff wool fabric stripes extend from both ends of the frame toward the middle and a skein of weft is attached to the last point woven. Approximately one half of the dark brown warp is unwoven. The warp is secured to the interior of the frame by separate lashing cords at each end.
A felted beige hat with a large crown and small flat brim. White commercial cloth used as a headband and an edging which is stitched to the brim. The felt is thick and rigid and the surface is smooth.
Wool sling consisting of an orange, purple, green, yellow and red braid with five tassels spaced along the length and a centrally positioned pouch. The pouch is composed of four woven strips which have a stitched netting between them. One end has a braided finger loop.
Wide red belt with white figurative and geometric motifs is sewn at one end to a stiff, thick belt cross-striped in light and dark shades of natural wool. The non-sewn end of the red belt terminates in 36 braids which are grouped together by a cord knotted to a very narrow woven tie with geometric patterns. Another doubled cord is attached to the non-sewn end of the stiff belt. The red belt has five lengthwise design bands. In the centre, the widest band has naturalistic images of horses, cows, birds and a house alternating with more geometric motifs, principally a six-part circle. Narrow bands flanking the central stripe repeat an eye shape on both sides of zigzag. Pattern bands near the edges have many small motifs, mostly geometric.
