Large wooden bowl. Long and narrow, carved from rosewood, with thick walls, and a wide base that is concave on the underside. Ebony wood is inset along the outer rim in a line of diamond and triangle shapes, below which are carved the outline of birds in a linear design. On one end of the bowl sits a large sculptural element showing a shark transforming from its human shape. The figure of a man emerges from below, with large head, flat jaw, heavy brow and shell eyes, and is backed by swirls and circular designs. On the opposite side of the bowl is an eagle, wings angled behind the head to rest on the edge of the bowl, beak in contact with the upraised tail of a fish whose head supports the bird’s belly. Abalone is used for the creatures’ eyes, and in a repeating motif along the lip of the bowl.
Brown ink print on thick, cream coloured paper. The image shows a large canoe at top, four figures seated inside and rowing with long paddles through large waves with rounded tops. Below, under the surface of the water, is a stylized triangular net containing several fish (bonito tuna) of various sizes, all decorated with linear designs. The boat, fish and net are surrounded by palm leaves to edges of the image, representing the technique used in traditional Solomon Islands fisheries of herding a school of fish toward a net using the leaves. Serigraph 2/30.
A circular print on square paper. Depicts four abstract great white sharks, two at the top and two at the bottom. Between each pair of sharks is a dark blue sea turtle outlined in yellow. In the middle of the print on each side is a black (frigate?) bird and behind each of them in the centre of the print is a circle within a square and a fish on either side, outlined in yellow. Inscription in pencil below image.
A print depicting two long-necked herons with long legs. The heron on the right is looking up while the other is looking down at the water. Both herons are decorated with various patterns. The water has a swirled pattern in it. There is a small decorated fish at their feet. At the centre top, there is a white circular moon with symbol inside that represents good fortune for fishing. The sky in the background has a repeated cloud pattern in various shades of purple, blue, pink, and turquoise. Inscription in pencil below image.
