Mask based on the top of a turtle shell for the face. Face is painted white with red contour lines and a black chin. Face is outlined by a black line which also goes down along the nose, creating a heart-like form. Eyes are each made out of a cowrie shell and are outlined by a black line that tapers to a point at the outer side. Nostrils are red outlined by black. Thirty-seven other shells are surrounding the face. Red clay molded ears. Mask is surrounded by a seven layer coil of red plant bark, or root? Hanging plant fibre cord at the top centre.

Face is outlined by a black line which also goes down along the nose, creating a heart-like form. Eyes are each made out of a cowrie shell. Nostrils are black and red. Small red mouth. Twenty-one other shells are around the top portion of the face. Red clay molded ears. Mask is surrounded by a nine layer coil of brown plant bark, or root? Long, thin brown-black feathers are at the top of the head. Hanging plant fibre cord at the top centre.

Suspension HookIe452

Carved male figure hook. Black wooden hook in the form of a human figure with a crescent-shaped base, with inlaid cowrie shell eyes. The ears curl around. Underneath the large nose, there is a curving beak-like mouth that extends downward to the belly. Carved with upraised eyebrows and a hair line. From the wide shoulders, the thin arms rest to the sides. Has genatalia. The knees are slightly bent forward and the feet are resting on the base. A brown piece of plant fibre is tied around the upper body.

Open-work basketry woven mask of plant fibre that tapers from the sides to a long vertical point, creating the nose with a circular eye on either side surrounded by a vertical oval. From the top of the head, there are three flat levels of radiating zig zag bands. Natural brown.

Carved wood figure of a human standing on a human head. While both heads have a long, flat, outward pointing nose, round red eyes, ears, and an open red mouth with a tongue in the middle, the top head has a downward pointing hair line and the bottom head has a straight horizontal hair line. The main body has a long cylindrical torso with curving arms holding something long along the middle of the chest. There is a metal hanger around the upper neck. Designs on the upper body include vertical rows of red triangles while designs on the lower body include vertical rows of red ovals. Colours are red and white on natural brown.

Headdress720/10

A circle wrapped with stems(?), from which four woven bands extend and connect on either side of the circle. In between the bands a single stem is woven, attaching alternately to the band above and below, creating a triangular pattern. On the outside of the last band, wooden twigs are secured. The entire headdress is dark brown.

Shield made from one piece of rectangular wood with rounded corners. The shield has a carved x-shaped design with a flat centre, arms that have a raised square pattern, and one extra arm that is flat and widens towards the end. A bark fibre (?) strap is attached at the back with the ends fed through two holes at the sides of the shield and knotted in the front.

Board with overall elongated oval shape with one blunted end. The board is decorated with a symmetrical geometric design that is divided down the centre of the length and is carved into the wood with a slightly raised border around each shape. The raised areas are painted black, and the design is filled in with white and orangy-brown on the face. There are two crescent-shaped areas of the design, both black, and each with an elongated protruding element emerging from the straightest side.

A long wood mask (part a) painted dark brown with black curvi-linear lines. The vertical oval eyes have protruding cylindrical pupils. There is a ridge all the way down the middle of the face, extending to the long rounded curved nose that touches the bottom of the mask. The nose has a tusk curving upward at either side and is decorated with shells. There is an angular protrusion at the bottom of the mask. There are seeds and cowrie shells decorating the outer contours of the mask. The top of the mask has dark brown curly hair. There are some fragments in a small box (part b).

Ceremonial DaggerIe445

A circular clay face with short dark brown feathers on top and a bone point below that is convex on the front side while concave on the back side. The cowrie shell eyes are painted red and are outlined with a black line extending upward toward its respective temple, which in turn, is outlined with white and red. There is a long black line running down along the middle of the face to the end of the nose. The top of the forehead is decorated with small cowrie shells. The lips are pinched to pout out and the mouth area is white.
