Tree of Life Panel2903/38

Long textile with a 'tree of life" theme. Grey background with a black border around the edge of the work. At the bottom is a rounded blue and bluish-red pot with a tree growing out of it. Within the upper portion are two figures – one male and one female (Adam and Eve). They both wear green leaf skirts. On either side of the pot is a dark green horizontal line. Standing on the left hand side is a wolf outlined in green; the interior of the wolf’s body is colour blocked into quadrants of dark blue with a red centre, yellow, pink and light orange. On the right side of the pot are two hummingbirds and an alpaca. The hummingbird nearest centre is outlined in dark pink and the interior is light pink and green. The other hummingbird is outlined in red-blue and the interior is light orange, yellow, pink and green. The alpaca is outlined in red and the interior is light orange, green, blue and yellow. It has a red furry mane down the back of its neck. The trunk of the tree is dark green with a blue core. The first branch of the tree above the pot has a dark green interior with a blue outline. The leaves are all outlined in dark green but the interior colours vary. On the left side of the first branch, there is a woman picking fruit. On the right side of the branch a man and a woman are passing fruit between their hands. The next branch up has hanging flowers in red, pink, yellow and green. On the left side of the tapestry, between this branch and the lower one, flies a red, pink, green and yellow hummingbird. Hanging downwards near the hummingbird, there is a snake wrapped around the left side of the branch. The snake is blue, red-blue, pink, green and yellow. Also on the left side of the branch, closer to the trunk of the tree, there is a standing bird in light blue, pink, dark blue, white and light orange. There is a four-legged animal with pointed ears and a long tail, standing on the right side of the branch, outlined in red-blue with a light orange, blue, yellow and green interior. On the left side of the next branch up there is a red-blue outlined bird with a blue, pink, yellow and white interior. Standing on the right side of the branch, is an ox-like animal that has horns. The ox is outlined in red and has a yellow, green, blue and pink interior. On the far right side of the branch, there is a parrot standing on a leaf. The next branch up has a short four-legged animal with a long tail standing on the left side of the branch. Nestled in some leaves above and to the left of this animal is a frog that is green, pink and light orange. On the right side of the branch there is another person picking fruit. Further right is a monkey on a leaf outlined in black, with blue, pink and light orange interior. There is another monkey on the next branch up outlined in red with a pink, blue and yellow interior. The next branch is the top branch of the tree. It is yellow with a dark green core and its leaves are the most elaborate. At the top of the trunk there is a half-moon shaped flower in dark green, yellow, pink, and blue. Along bottom edge is a piece of wood with tacks affixing it to the fabric and the artist’s name written in black thread. There is a maker's tag on the back of the textile.
