Shaman Mask3010/8

Shaman or Pipe Smoker mask. Face is red with black eyebrows and beard. Brows are furrowed; nose and mouth are askew. Leather headband nailed across top of forehead. A single hole is drilled on each side of the face with a string attached. Small holes line the top of the mask. Back of mask is plain.

Sanjuan Mask3010/7

Sanjuan mask. Black rectangular-shaped face with slightly furrowed brow, round eye sockets, flat nose, and long, extended tongue. Fur headband and small dark feathers extending out of the top. Facial hair made of fur surrounds mouth with bared teeth. Single hole drilled on each side of mask with string tied into it. Back of mask is plain.

Shinje Taita Mask3010/14

Shinje Taita or Father Sun mask. Face is long and narrow with a prominent pointed chin. The face is painted red with small black eyebrows. There are holes for eyes, nostrils and mouth. The eyes are deeply set and close together. The nose has a narrow ridge, and the mouth has pursed lips. A headband of alternating squares of green and yellow with red dots extends across the forehead with yellow feathers and a single brown feather extending up from. Two colourful feathers extend down from the headband - one on each temple. There are two holes on either side of the face with a leather strap attached for wearing.

Devil Mask3010/11

Devil Mask. Devil has small pointed ears, two curved horns, long black hair and facial hair. Large circular eyes with red pupils point downwards under a prominent brow ridge, and a large nose carved in high relief. Mouth is opened wide with tongue hanging out. Two green snakes extend down around neck with heads meeting under the chin. A single hole drilled on either side with yellow twine attached. Back of mask is unpainted.

The Harpist3010/21 a-d

Male figure playing a harp. Male figure (part a) wearing knee-length black robes with a white tie at the waist and a necklace made of white and red seeds. Both arms and legs are moveable. The large harp (part b) has two feet and is strung with nylon. The figure has large hands with long fingers, and an open mouth in which a dark brown wooden pipe (part c) fits. The figure stands on a wooden platform (part d), which has been painted white on top, and has four leather loops for footholds.

The Missionary3010/25 a-n

Five figures: a missionary (part a), wooden cross (part b) and base (part c). The missionary and base are both dark brown-black woods. He wears a long dark brown robe, more loosely knit in the upper body, cinched at the waist by a thick twisted white tie. In his right hand he holds a small crucifix. The base is a small rectangle of wood with two leather straps attached. Part d is a standing male figure in grass skirt, with a wooden staff (part e) and base (part f). His right hand is clenched to hold the wooden staff; both arms move from shoulders, and legs at hips. The base is a small rectangle of wood with two leather straps attached. Part g is a standing male figure in grass skirt, with a wooden spear (part h), wooden stake (part i), and base (part j). Both hands are clenched to hold the wooden staff and stake. Both arms move from shoulders, and legs at hips. The base is a small octagonal of wood with two leather straps attached. Part k is a kneeling male figure in grass skirt (part k), holding a ritual object with feathers (part l) in his right hand, and a staff (part m) in his left hand. Arms move at shoulders, and legs at hips. Part n is a crouching woman. Figure wears a red and brown tunic, cinched by a woven belt. Arms move at shoulders, and legs at hips.

Wooden figure. Two male figures stand backs turned to one another while holding a large red vessel in between. The legs and feet are disproportionally large. Both figures wear black tunics, belted with a white sash. The red vessel is round with a blue lip at top and has four handles.

Shinje Taita or Father Sun mask (part a). Face is long and narrow. Large light grey collar extends from under a prominent pointed chin. Face is painted red with small black eyebrows. There are holes for eyes, nostrils and mouth. Eyes are deeply set and close together, nose has a narrow ridge, and mouth has pursed lips. Solid black headband extends across the forehead with 15 holes along the top ridge to insert the 15 feathers (part b) into. Feathers are either brownish-red or white with brown stripes, and are tied together with thread. Two holes are drilled on each side of the mask, with a string attached to the lower holes. Back of mask painted black.
