RattleA3656

Brown wood rattle consisting of two rounded pieces put together, each with a semi-cylindrical handle, creating a full rounded oval rattle. Handle is bound with metal wire. Rattle is in the form of a killer whale which curves all the way around with the tail meeting the small blow hole on top with the human figure attached to it. Black eyes in white oval in green oval with extended curving red line around and black and white u forms above. Black body is decorated with white in red circles that have abalone shell inlay at their centres. Side fins have a central abalone shell inlay surrounded by a green ovoid with a red split u at the end. Vertically black dashed tail is outlined by black and bordered by white. Human figure is red with a green area surrounded the black eyes. Cedar bark decorating the end of the tail and the human.

Mask painted white with heavy black eyebrows, black around the eyes with a gill-like design in black over the cheeks, red nostrils and lips, a black moustache, red accentuating the cheeks and sides of the mouth, and a black chin. Two rectangular ears protrude at the sides and are painted red and white separated by a black line. There are also two black oval marks on the mask's right ear and four black oval marks on the mask's left ear. Cord attached at back with a piece of off-white fabric knotted around it.

Speaker's StaffA3655

Talking stick, or speaker's staff, with upper lacquered section decorated with totemic figures, and the lower tapering cylindrical portion painted dark green. There is a brass sheath on the tip with a rounded brass point emerging from the centre bottom of the staff.
