Mask3522/30

Wooden humanoid mask with a wide face that tapers at the chin. Mask has a rounded prominent brow over protruding circular eyes; eyebrows done in relief. Small nose is wide and crooked; indents along bottom edge to imitate nostrils. Frowning mouth, with full lips, is open and has six silver-coloured teeth embedded along the top edge. Small semi-circular ears extend from either side of the mask, with holes through their centres; two long rows of holes drilled through bottom and sides of chin. Lips and area surrounding eyes are coloured with red-orange pigment. Mask has holes for eyes and mouth. All sides are rounded; interior is hollow. Holes drilled along all edges.

Humanoid face made of packed clay and pigment. Face has a large forehead, with a triangle-shaped piece of red-pink glass embedded in its centre, that tapers into a narrow face; chin is squat. Cowrie shell eyes frame a hooked nose that has a braid of plant fibre attached to its base, imitating a moustache. Mouth is open and has a protruding bottom lip. Two deep channels are moulded onto the top of the head, creating three high ridges across the surface. Both channels have strands of plant fibre in them, secured with wooden pegs; similar strand is attached to the top of the centre ridge. Plant fibre braids are nailed along the edges of the face. All plant fibre imitates hair. Back of carving and base are undecorated.

Animal Horn3522/4

Horn container filled with packed pigment and plant fibre; horn has a hole drilled through the tip. Brass ring is strung through the hole and has decorative brass attachments. Attachments include: a bracelet-like band, two coiled springs and an ankle dance rattle-like band. The bracelet-like attachment has a rounded interior and exterior; top and bottom sides are flat. The centre exterior is decorated with incised diagonal lines. The rattle-like band is folded, with the top and bottom edges pinched at two points on the exterior side; semi-circles protrude from top and bottom edges in between pinched sections. The ends of the band are curled into tight circles.

Circular thumb pot made of black clay. Pot lip flares outward; steep inner walls end in a rounded well. Exterior of pot tapers into a small foot. Two decorative bands circle the lip and base; bands consist of three rows of imprinted triangles. Base is undecorated.

Wooden humanoid mask with a narrow face that tapers at the chin. Mask has a pronounced brow, over protruding circular eyes; large nose is crooked and triangular. Both features are carved in high relief. The large space between the nose and open mouth is smooth and flares outward, transitioning into the upper lip. Six flat-tipped triangles extend from the top edge of the forehead, imitating hair. Sides and top of mask are flat, chin is rounded and mask interior is hollow. Mask has holes for eyes and mouth. Holes drilled along left and right sides; similar holes drilled into edge of bottom lip.

Standing wooden figure of a nude female. She has incised eyes above a pointed nose and pronounced lips; four silver-coloured teeth are embedded throughout her open mouth. Her circular ears are carved flat against her head and her hair is done in three elaborately carved braids across the top of her head, ending in a bun against the back of her neck. Her arms curve outward and are bent at the elbows; small triangular indent along the side of the hands, imitating thumbs. She has a flat stomach below pointed breasts; has pronounced buttocks, thighs and calves. Her feet are oval-shaped, acting as a base.

Carved stone figure in standing position; carving is cylindrical in shape and has a flared base. Narrow eyes and unsmiling mouth are incised; long hooked nose done in relief. Ears are carved flat against head; top of head is covered in rows of circular protrusions, imitating hair(?). Three incised lines circle neck. Thin straight arms are carved in high relief down front; nipples and belly button done in low relief. Back is undecorated; small hole drilled into bottom centre of base.

Carved stone figure in kneeling position. Figure has pronounced eyes, long curving eyebrows and a protruding nose. Thin pursed lips carved underneath wide nostrils. Oval-shaped ears are flat against sides, extending onto back of head. Figure has a pointed belly and its arms curve around it. Ends of arms are rounded; knees are pointed. Buttocks and back are done in relief.

Pot3522/23

Black clay pot for palm wine. Pot has a braided plant fibre handle; secured with a tie around the neck. Lip flares out slightly before extending into a straight neck. The body bulges outward before tapering into a raised foot. Neck, upper body and lower body are decorated with bands consisting of incised lines with raised rectangles throughout. Wide band wraps around body and is made up of triangles with ovals at the centres; negative space is filled with incised lines with raised rectangles throughout. Foot has an incised wavy line, bordered with imprinted squares, along the bottom edge; base is undecorated.

Spear3522/97

Spear with a leaf-shaped head and cylindrical wooden shaft. The spearhead is flat; socket extends from head and wraps around top of shaft. Socket completely covers shaft on front and has triangular opening at back; riveted to shaft on front. Spear is undecorated.
