Long, rectangular shaped, black felt scarf with red felt appliqué design of a frog in profile, at each end. When worn around neck, one frog faces up, one faces down. A 'Feastwear' label is attached inside at back centre.
Black and red button blanket with a large downward facing frog design in the centre. The frog's eyes are small circles of abalone shell. Three full rows of shell buttons demarcate the central black area. There are eight repeating positive/negative designs along the side borders (four each side). There is a rectangular cut out area at the neck. Each bottom corner on the reverse has one of the maker's initials embroidered onto the fabric (D.G. at one corner, R.D. on the other).
The leather is brown. The leather is black. The lining is black.
The wool cloth is dark purple. The button is silver and thread. The silk is dark purple.
'In the Spirit of the Ancestors'-In 1991, I commissioned Dorothy Grant to make me a coat. My nani coat, I called it, in honor of Florence Edenshaw Davidson, my teacher, collaborator, and surrogate grandmother (nani). The design tells of Florence's and my collaboration. On the front: Raven (nani Florence) telling the story; on the back: Frog (me) receiving it. I wore this coat to Florence's memorial potlatch in October 1994. - Margaret Blackman
'In the Spirit of the Ancestors'-This robe is a collaborative effort between Haida artists Robert Davidson and Dorothy Grant. It was Dorothy's personal robe, worn by her on many ceremonial occasions in the 1980s and 90s. The dogfish design appliqud in the central panel is a crest of Grant's Yahgu'laanaas Raven clan.
