Stone paint cup.* Cylindrical. Four knobs unevenly spaced on two sides. Top has slight depression ground into it (6/95). *Information is from the original accession ledger.

Point maul.* Basalt. Ground and highly polished, plumb bob-shaped groundstone artifact. Similar objects from the Great Basin are referred to as "charmstones" by Strong (6/95). *Information is from the original accession ledger.

Carved pestle. (and painted crossed out) Remarks: Might also be used as war club.* Pestle is basically cylindrical and evenly ground on all sides. Grinding end is chipped and has a yellow substance adhering to it. Opposite end is zoomorphic with two ears, two eyes, and a nose. Medium stone mortar.* Stone mortar returned from Grant County Public Utility District, Wanapum Dam Heritage Center on January 25, 1995. These materials were originally sent to Grant County PUD for future exchange (see Borrower's Agreement - 1966), but the exchange papers were never drawn up. Since this material was only loaned, not deaccessioned, the Grant County PUD returned it to the Burke. (L. Phillips, 1/26/95). Chipped stone scrapers. Numbers of specimens -149- in upper left hand corner of ledger were entered by Frank Barnett, who checked the material in 1939 while working as a volunteer. Original ledger number was 182+. 1 traded for Acc. 3822. 4 traded to CMNH.* Thirty-nine chert, obsidian, and opal chipped stone tools. Seventy-two chert scrapers.
