Point, Chipped Stone5700

Stemmed, shouldered but not barbed arrow heads (serrated).* Five points loaned to Public Utility District No. 1 of Chelan County (Rocky Reach Dam). Two points were returned; three are missing. NOTE: determined to be lost while on loan- R. Andrews 9/18/1995. Remarks: 5 traded to CMNH. Some were used for school services. NOTE: 4 projectile points were exchanged to Grant County PUD, 6/5/1970. See accn file. (9/22/1993, DH) Four points (5700/9, 5700/255, 5700/135, 5700/254) returned from Grant County Public Utility District, Wanapum Dam Heritage Center on January 25, 1995. These materials were originally sent to Grant County PUD for future exchange (see Borrower's Agreement - 1966), but the exchange papers were never drawn up. Since this material was only loaned, not deaccessioned, the Grant County PUD returned it to the Burke. (L. Phillips, 1/26/95). Previous counts list 202 tools, of which seventeen could be located. All are chert points, one is side notched, two are basally nothced, seven are corner notched, five are stemmed (of which four have contracting bases), and two are unstemmed. (6/95). NOTE: At least one loaned to Washington State Parks and determined to be lost while on loan- R. Andrews 9/18/1995. One chert corner-side notched projectile point labeled "5700" located at Fort Okanogan Interpretive Center on 4/18/2007. Stem broken. Chipped Stone Tool5689

Chipped stone perforators straight and slender), not stemmed drills. Numbers of specimens -55- in upper left hand corner of ledger were entered by Frank Barnett who checked the material in 1939 while working as a volunteer. 3 traded to CMNH.* Five Drills (5689/178, 5689/179, 5689/180, 5689/47, 5689/49) returned from Grant County Public Utility District, Wanapum Dam Heritage Center on January 25, 1995. These materials were originally sent to Grant County PUD for future exchange (see Borrower's Agreement - 1966), but the exchange papers were never drawn up. Since this material was only loaned, not deaccessioned, the Grant County PUD returned it to the Burke. (L. Phillips, 1/26/95). Previous total count, off the computer, was 55. Now there are nineteen chipped stone tools. Chipped leaf-shaped points (straight base). Ledger Remarks: Numbers of specimens in upper left hand corner -17- of ledger were entered by Frank Barnett who checked the material in 1939 working as a volunteer. Original ledger number was 17. 2 traded to CMNH.* 10 chert (2 side-notched, 8 stemmed), 1 petrified wood, 1 basalt (side-notched), and 2 unidentified (square shouldered) points. Previous count on computer was 17, but only 14 are left in archaeology (6/95). 10/14/97: MaryAnn Emery (UW archaeology graduate student) found a stemmed chert point with 5679 written on the object in Anthropology Dept., Denny Hall Rm. 111. She returned it to the Burke Museum, and the artifact has been placed with the other artifacts bearing this catalog number. LSP, 10/14/97 *Information is from the original accession ledger.
