Dance ScreenA7233

Large brown, loosely woven dance screen with painted designs. The screen is made from pieces of fabric sewn together, creating vertical seams. Across the top is a painting of a sisiutl in black, red, and green. Below and against each side, are totem poles, facing one another. The poles have a red raven on top and a green bear-raven transformation ? on the bottom. The top edge of the screen is doubled over, to be hung from a wooden rod. The bottom edge has a twisted fringe.

Dance ScreenA7232

Woven brown dance screen with painted design. The dance screen has an open weave and is made of several pieces sewn together with vertical seams. The top edge has been folded over and sewn, to be mounted on a wooden pole. The central design is a totem pole in black, red and green. The pole has two raven motifs; the raven in red holds his head up, the raven in green is looking down. There is a twisted fibre fringe on the lower edge.

Round mat with ragged central dark blue circle surrounded by a concentric dark blue, purple, and green band. Two figures in red and purple are around the middle at either side. Outer rim edge is green, purple, and dark blue. Wrapped twined weaving (which is diagonal to the warp on the correct side and vertical to the warp on the reverse side).

Basketry HatA1129

Basketry hat with various twined weaves. Brim is done in both a mixed twined weave, which produces rows of weaving, and a plain twined weave with diagonal twined weave skip stitches, which produce a chevron twill pattern. The crown has a three-strand twined weave interspersed with bands of plain twined weave (i.e. two-strand twined weave) on the top of the crown. Inner support: interior head band of diagonal twined weave. Applied expansive design in black, red and green paint.

Baby CarrierA1138

Basketry cradle of simple interlocking coiled work with bifurcated stitches. Parallel slat base construction with single stitch side reinforcement and an overcast rim. The rim has continuous imbrication in red cherry bark. The body has the first four slats beaded in four rows of white bullrush and one row of black cherry at the head of the cradle. Double-row stepped design in red cherry scattered over the rest.

Mask with prominant nose and a mouth with slightly downturned corners. The mask is painted white with heavy black eyebrows accentuated with black lines above them, red nostrils bordered in black, red lips and chin, a heavy black moustache with curled ends, and black under the mouth as well as around the chin. There is also a black curvilinear design on the mask's right cheek.

Small cylindrical basket (a) with flat, fitted lid (b); lid is held in place by a cedar flange attached around the upper rim of the basket. Fine wrapped twined work. Base:central circle of pink/purple/yellow/purple (wave pattern) surrounded by a green, wavey line. Sides: discrete bands of orange rectangles on purple ground bordered by a green jagged line. Lid: pink/yellow/brown rim; same discrete bands as on sides joined by a brown line; inner circle is red/yellow/brown.

Thick ring wrapped with cloth. Partially tightly wrapped with thick lengths of twisted cedar bark one strand rope. Clumps of shredded cedar bark are attached at either end of the ring.
