Storage BasketA1821

Basket with interlocking coiled work, bifurcated stitches, and parallel slat base and lid construction. Flange at rim to fit lid. The lid is convex, and hinged to the basket with buckskin. Buckskin ties at front. Decorated with imbrication and beading. Partial imbrication in a continuous design. Two horizontal wide bands of a 'flying goose' design (zig-zag with flat bottoms and tops), alternating in white cat-tail grass (?) and red and black-dyed cherry bark. Upper and lower band are connected. The upper row is continued on the sides of the lid, and the sequence of red and black are reversed from lower band. Lid has a series of parallel beaded short bands in black cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?) , alternating with bands of with red cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?). Handles on each side, one with string tied to it, the other with red thread.

Bird FigureA1363

A concave eight-sided wooden plaque or shield. Formed from three pieces of wood nailed together. Carved head of a bird with inset abalone eyes, and red and black painted highlights nailed to the top of the plaque. The main part of the shield is painted green, red, and black with the bird's body including the wings, tail, and claws, and a human face on the breast. The wings each have three feathers.

LadleA1355

Ladle carved from one piece of wood with an elongated bowl, a cylindrical handle, and a finial at the top of the handle carved in the form of a humanoid face. The spoon is painted with a design in red, green, and black with a red and green border, and the underside is painted red, blue and black over low-relief carving. The handle shaft is painted black , and the head is painted with red, black and green hair, black eyebrows, a red and black design on the forehead, red nostrils and lips, black over the cheeks, and green on the rest of the face.

Bentwood BoxA1144 a-b

Bentwood box base (a) and woven basketry lid (b). The base has a design on two of the wider sides of a band of incised diagonal lines along the sides and top. There are two holes in each narrow side. The lid is made of strips of cedar bark in a warp and weft weave with a wide lip. The edges of the lid are upturned and stitched down with thin strips of cedar bark.

A slightly curved bow, which, in cross-section, has a flat surface on one side while the other side is convex. Has a design consisting of a central light blue paint band surrounded by a hand-grip of burgundy-coloured velvet coloured material with a wide blue paint band at either side, each of which has a thin red paint band to border it. Shellacked or varnished. A single notch in each end for a bowstring.

Has a design consisting of an alternating pattern of green bands and red evergreen-tree/hour-glass-like shapes. Pair of notches on either end to hold bowstring.
