Clappers3205/6

Double-sided clappers (kartal style). Wooden body is shaped like two large-headed fish with tails joining at the object’s concave middle. Eyes are carved, as are parallel lines decorating the tails. At centre sits an upright metal ring with bead at top. Each fish holds two metal disks in its mouth that clang together when the instrument is shaken. Bottom of clapper is flat and undecorated.

Chisel3205/7

Agouti tooth chisels. Cane wood makes up the shaft of the chisels, with wrapped vine thread and tree resin used to secure the teeth. The agouti rodent teeth are very sharp, strong, thin and slightly curved, coloured a light orange.The two chisels are attached by cord tied around and indentation at the ends.

Tile3205/2

Square tile of fibreboard with clay patterns on front. A border is made of alternating ‘x’ and ‘o’ shapes, small circles of mirror inserted into the centre of each ‘o’. At centre of tile is a daisy shape with mirrors inside each petal, surrounded by a circle with drop shapes extending toward the outside. Fine silver sparkles have been adhered intermittently across the surface of the tile. Rear side is undecorated.

Square tile of fibreboard with clay patterns on front. A border is made of alternating ‘x’ and ‘o’ shapes, small circles of mirror inserted into the centre of each ‘o’. At centre of tile is a diamond made up of small squares, a mirror at the centre of each. Flowers decorate the edges of the diamond. Pencil marks are visible under and around some of the clay decorations. Rear side is undecorated.

Toy parrot. Bird stands balanced on both legs and a long thick tail, with a thick torso and no discernible wings. It is completely covered with glass seed beads sewn to an under-layer of fabric in zigzag patterning on torso and diagonal lines on tail, in colours of white, blue, red, green and orange. Face is white with red beak and eyes. Around neck and along top of tail are small tassels in a multitude of colours.

Toy horse. Animal has a long neck, thin legs, and a long body. It is completely covered with glass seed beads sewn to a layer of yellow silk in criss-cross patterns on the neck, and diagonal lines on legs and body, in colours of white, blue, red, yellow, green and orange. Face is white with red halter and tail is multicoloured with a tuft of purple wool at tip. Mane and reins are constructed of a line of beading with small tassels in blue, pink, yellow, grey and purple.

Toy elephant. Animal has a thick trunk, relatively small head and ears, long legs, and a thin body. It is completely covered with glass seed beads sewn to a layer of blue silk in criss-cross patterns of white filled with green and red. Face is white with blue ears and eyes, and small red tusks emerge. Curved trunk and legs are decorated with diagonal lines of beads in red, green and white, with a ring of yellow at trunk’s tip. Tail is beaded similarly, with a tuft of light purple wool at end.

Veil3132/2 c

Veil, or shawl, worn with wedding ensemble (3132/2 a-b). Fabric is wild tussar silk in a light orange-brown colour. It is hand embroidered with small images of standing birds, elephants with tusks and long tails, and human figures with arms spread, in gold metallic thread, round wooden beads, and tubular glass and metal beads. The back of the veil shows the yellow and white thread used to attach the beads.
