Wolf MaskA8056

A wolf-like mask with large copper nostrils and two copper teeth. The eyes are made of circular abalone shell inlay. The red-painted concave ears are pointed and inserted. The lower jaw is hinged. The mouth is painted red with the nostrils accented with black paint. The upper face is painted red with black areas around the eyes, eyebrows, and just above the eyebrows.

Mask with small circular eye holes, a long, hooked nose, high cheek bones, protruding eyebrows, and lips that form an oval shape. The eyebrows, base of nose and moustache are in black, the nose, cheekbones and mouth are red, and the remainder of the face is painted grey with mottled red and black on the chin, three lines of red on on side of the face, and two red lines on the other side of the face. Black moss has been nailed to the mask under the nose, to the sides of the mouth, to the sides of the cheeks, and at the top of the head.

Brown wood cockle or clam shell carving. Painted with vertical black lines along all the ridges. Made of two halves connected at the smaller end with a patch of brown cloth nailed together. The two halves can open up like a clam shell.

Nuxalk style robe with woven designs. The design is like a three panel distributive, without the panels. The designs are red, yellow and black on natural ground. There are three eagle representations and two thunderbird heads in the centre, a human figure(?) near the top edge and killer whale motifs on the sides. The checkered border along the bottom edge is a raven’s tail design. There is a velvet band sewn along the top edge.

Moon Mask DancersA8003

Rectangular shaped painting depicting three moon mask dancers. All of the dancers are wearing button blankets; one dancer has his back showing displaying a Killer Whale. The two front facing figures are wearing an apron and red neck ring. All of the masks are black, yellow, green and red; similar be show a different phase of the moon. Written in blue pen along the bottom edge is ‘Moon Mask Dancers’ and ‘Chief Henry Speck’.

Mask with skull-like features, black eyebrows, closed crescent-shaped red eyes with small holes drilled in the middle. Two red triangles and a slight peak form the nose, and the mouth is open baring two rows of teeth. Two tufts of black horse hair are attached either side of the head at the top. The remainder of the mask is thinly painted with white paint, giving it an overall grey look.

Brown wood whistle that has a flat, rounded, rectangular-oval shape made of two pieces nailed together with a green-brown cloth bellows in between with a brown loop cord around it. One piece has two taper cut rectangular holes side-by-side on one side with an oval hole in a corner.

Wooden humanoid mask with small circular eyes, a slightly protruding lower lip, and a disproportionately large, protruding nose--nose appears to be a later addition to the mask and is not painted. Painted red, black, and yellow, with upturned black eyebrows, moustache, and goatee. There are two holes bored at the forehead.

Cover of tightly knitted red string sewn over a wrapped cloth core. Fringes are made of lengths of red-brown string twined across the top and sewn onto the ring in four places that are equally spaced. Circular in shape.
