AMEC Analysis: Artifact Type: Horse Trapping Comments: This artifact consists of a thin iron bar backed with wood. A portion of the metal has been snapped off so that one side has a metal loop and the other is only partial. The complete end extends 3 3/4 inches beyond the loop forming a handle. Two pieces of one object, comprised of wood and iron, of unknown function (AMEC had initially identified as Horse Trapping as "Artifact Type." Metal comprises the back and base of the object, as well as a handle and bisecting fragment. The wooden portion of the object is seated within the metal and pinned by the fragments to it. Wood has weakened severely and is fragmenting, especially around metal joints. Metal is corroded and possibly bent (handle). L. Penttila 3/1/2010

AMEC Analysis: Comments: This artifact is a pipe tobacco tin. No brand name is visible, however, the tin notes that it "Fits in the pocket" and "Patented May 30, 1899". One tobacco tin fragment. Brand name begins with "O" written in Old English text. Writing around the perimeter of the front: Top: IT FITS IN THE POCKET Left: ? PIPE TOBACCO Right: NO WASTE Bottom: A ? TO ? Below bottom: PATENTED IN U.S.A. MAY 30TH 1899 Tobacco remnants on back (non-printed) side. White and pink accretions on surface, possibly paint. J. Dougherty 12/22/2009

AMEC Analysis: Comments: This artifact is a wire-wrapped nail with a crushed round head - 2 5/8 inches in length. One round wire nail with four-facet point. No apparent mold seams, possibly shoulder-height mold (IMACS). Empressed Maker's Mark: (Side) KUTNOW'S POWDER (base) K's P Kutnow's Powder was a weight-loss "effervescent." AMEC Analysis: Part: Whole Neck Finish: Lipping Tool Decoration: Embossed Manufacture Method: Hand-made Bottom hinge Comments: This is a cure-all product. One brown glass medical bottle with monarch or erie oval base and flat or patent finish. Seams run up two opposing sides from base to shoulder. Seams rubbed out at neck, indicative of hand finishing. Embossed Makers Mark: "OZOMULSION" Maker's mark indicates the bottle was made by T.A. Slocum Company at 68 Pine Street in New York City. Dried remnants on inside of bottle. One clear glass bottle with round base and small external thread finish. Post base has suction scar indicative of the Owens Automatic Bottle Machine.
