Staff3326/18

Large staff built on a wood armature with an iron blade and phallic handle. The wooden hilt is studded, wrapped in iron with iron cap. The blade tapers in towards the tip. Towards the top there is a small square cutout with a cross etched on each side. Above and below, the thin area is wrapped in iron. The blade itself is also etched with various designs, however the metal is rusted.

Staff3326/17

Nude female figure standing on a tall cylindrical base. The female holds her arms down at her side, has a protruding abdomen, and large pointed breasts. The figure is covered in white dots and orange pigment which has collected in the grooves. She has large bulging eyes, and three vertical marks on each cheek. On her head she wears some sort of headdress, which has deteriorated and is not complete. The cylindrical base is also deteriorated with notable insect damage.

Mask3326/16

Mask carved of wood. The face is angular, with the ridge down the centre of the face. One side has broken off leaving the mask off-centre. Strong shelf-like brow ridge, rectangular cutout eyes, long narrow nose, wide open mouth and strong rounded chin extending from a broad neck. Seven holes are spaced around the mask: four down the side, two across the top, and one under the nose. Mounting hardware on back - two eye hooks and a wire.

Helmet Mask3326/11

Egungun helmet mask carved from blackened wood. Round head with large bulging white eyes, large ears, a flat broad nose, and broad mouth with serrated teeth. Depicted with facial marks, with c. three vertical and three horizontal lines beneath on both cheeks; three horizontal lines on the forehead. A large braided hairstyle or headdress extends from the top of the head down to the left, tapering to a knob end.

Gelede Mask3326/9

Helmet mask. The mask depicts a red human face with a black brow ridge, black outlining the eyes, and black and white scarification on the cheeks (three vertical lines). The stout head has a small, wide face at the front, and a coiffure or headdress with three horizontal crests. Behind each ear is a fibre strap.

Mask carved of wood. Anthropomorphic mask with a human face and pair of large horns extending up from head. The face features a down turned nose, down-slanting eyes, and a large open mouth with three large fangs. The face is a lighter brown, with the horns and chin a dark brown, and the outlines of the facial features in black.

Small carved mask of a human face. The face is surrounded by a flat edge with holes through it that are more concentrated around the upper edge. The face has small cutout squinting eyes, a small pointed nose and a wide toothy smile. On each temple and the centre of the forehead are raised rectangular designs made with three rows of three small rectangles.

Kpelie mask carved of stained wood. Long oval female face that tapers to a point at the chin. Round projecting mouth exposes teeth. Arched brows form a continuous crosshatched pattern across the face. Long slender nose with slightly bulging slit eyes. Face marked with concentric diamonds symmetrically flanking each side. Two sets of fin-like projections extend from each side of the face. Emerging from either lower side of mask are two tapering, oblong projections. Central rosette crest surmounting forehead symmetrically flanked by bull horns. A small bird with head down stands on the crown. Mounting hardware attached to back - two eye hooks and a red wire.

Rhythm Pounder3326/15

Rhythm pounder. Wooden female figure with long curved legs and feet standing on a small domed base. Short arms hang at sides. The figure wears a bracelet on each wrist, an arm ring on each upper arm, one band below the breasts, and two bands at the waist with a cloth hanging(?). There are incised crosshatched designs on the face, shoulders, arms, breasts, quadriceps and pregnant belly. The face extends out from the neck, and hangs down. The face is long and oval shaped with heavy lidded eyes and a serrated mouth with a flat back. Perched on the head is a rodent-like animal with its tail dangling down behind the figure. The shape of the human figure's head mimics that of the rodents. The ears sit high on the head, and are folded back.

Maiden Spirit Mask3326/3

Mmwo helmet mask. Carved from a single piece of wood, the mask depicts a female face with a large ornate coiffure. The face is painted white with decorative green and black patterns on the cheeks and brows. There are small rounded red ears with green circular plugs(?), small cutout eyes, and a small grinning red mouth with teeth showing. The top piece is decorated with incised concentric ovoid's and lines on the hair, with a black crest with red cutout zigzag detailing between the arch and the 'hair'. Around the lower rim of the mask are evenly spaced holes.
