The four sides alternate between two brightly coloured patterns on a yellow background: a floral scene and a cherry blossom branch, each with single bird. Black pin borders mark the sides and divide them from the shoulder. The neck and shoulder are blue with a pink, green and yellow floral pattern. The lip is white with a red ring, with four small floral designs on the inside.

Rectangular wooden box with dovetail joints, a hinged lid and a lock. Lid features a carved landscape scene with polychrome ivory figures--all are elaborately carved, painted, and gilded. Inside, the underside of lid is covered with padded silk and the bottom is covered with grey velvet; the silk padding is marked "Arthur and Bond Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Yokohama." There may have been a tray inside at one time.
