Drum3677/11

Heavy, tall wooden drum. Somewhat hourglass-shaped, with a smaller lower section. Skin stretched over the wider end, held by leather strip nailed around edge. The side has vertical lines of twisted animal skin with cowrie shells attached uniformly, which attaches to a metal ring. Hollow wooden base, which has lightly marked lines around the sides and circular marks with holes in the centre that follow the lines. Twisted fibre loop sits loose around the foot. Twisted fibre handle attached to one side.

The flat, oval-shaped head has raised facial features - eyebrows extending down to the nose in a Y-shape, almond-shaped eyes, and small mouth. The head is framed by metal, that curves outward on both sides by the chin. They have a long neck, short torso with prominent breasts, back and buttocks. They have a twisted belt around the waist. The limbs are very long, with both arms and legs slightly bent, and hands down at the side. There are 3 pairs of bands or bangles on each arm.

Carved stone standing female figure. The head is large and oblong-shaped front to back, with carved rows of hair, ears, almond-shaped eyes, a wide nose, and prominent lips. They have a short, wide neck and a short torso with prominent breasts, back and buttocks. The slightly bent arms are down with hands at the side. The attached legs are bent at the knees. The figure stands on a mound-like base, which doubles as feet.

Funerary Mask3677/2

Oval-shaped face mask with protruding forehead. The the ridge of the forehead extends into a long, triangular nose. The eyes extend out and have horizontal openings, and there is a protruding downward peg for the mouth. Painted red on forehead and eyelids, and white from under eyes to chin, with some light blue spots showing in both areas. Small holes line the forehead. Three slanted lines carved on both cheeks.

Queen Mother Head Sculpture3677/4

Cast bronze, hollow female head with tall protruding crown or ukpe-okhue. The pointed crown is formed of a net of cylindrical beads (appears cross-hatched), with its point curving forward. There are two vertical bands on the forehead between the eyes, and four scars (raised vertical lines) above each eyebrow. Many breaks and corrosion in the layered metal.

The top edge is straight with two metal rings for hanging attached at each side, and parts of the central figure's headdress projecting past the upper edge. Water Buffalo Headdress3677/1

Bull, or water buffalo, headdress or mask. Carved and painted with off-white and blue designs, with orange-red inside the ears and hollow, traingular snout area. The horns form a closed circle at the top, with small notched ears projecting from the sides next to the horns. There are mirrored white triangles at the base of the horns, and a large white triangle on the forehead. The head section is round, and hollowed out at the back, with large white circular eyes on top. Repeating white triangles line the edge of the face and snout, with two rows of smaller white triangles across the base of the snout.
