String Puppet3352/7

Mamulengo string puppet (marionette) of a man riding a 'burrinha' or ox characters. Heads, hands and feet are carved from wood and painted. The man has orange-pink skin, painted black hair, straight mouth with red lips, and large oval black eyes. He wears a long-sleeved yellow with blue floral shirt, and yellow with multicoloured heart pattern pants. The black and white ox has long black leather ears, and a curly black tail. A red with multicoloured floral pattern skirt extends down where the animal's body should be. The fabric is adhered(?) to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny red ribbon at the wrists and neck, and across the ox's nose. The man is attached by several black strings to a wooden control bar composed of a single long piece of wood with one cross-bar.

Hand Puppet3352/1 a-c

Mamulengo hand puppet of a 'Boizinho' or bull character. The body is carved from wood and painted. The bull (part a) is black with white spots with two long brown horns that extend forwards. Where the legs should be, it's covered by a long multi-coloured fabric skirt. The skirt is composed of four strips of fabric, each with a different pattern - the top section is yellow with large pink flowers, then shiny gold, then red with blue flowers, and then purple shiny fabric. There are neon ribbons hanging from the horns, as well as a single strip around the top of the skirt. A long black tail of a triangle of black fabric and black hair extends down the back. Operated by inserting a hand inside the body of the puppet to control its head and movements. The puppet can be placed on a stand - stick (part b) and base (part c).

Mamulengo hand puppet of a 'Sargento' (sergeant) character. Carved from wood and painted. He has orange-beige skin, wide black eyes, nose, and a closed mouth with thin red lips. He wears a carved dark green cap over painted black hair. He wears a dark teal collared shirt that is belted at the waist with shiny light green ribbon, and dark emerald green pants. The fabric is adhered to the hands, and wrapped with shiny light green ribbon at the wrist. His boots are painted black.

He has light beige skin, wide oval black eyes, rounded eyebrows, a pointed nose, and a wide grinning mouth. He has painted black hair. His fabric body / tunic is dark red with sleeves and skirt of a green fabric with large yellow, red, and orange-pink flowers. The fabric is adhered(?) to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny brown ribbon at the wrists and neck. He holds a green liquor bottle in his left hand. Operated by inserting a hand inside the body of the puppet to control its head and movements.

He has dark brown skin, slanted oval black eyes, small rounded eyebrows, a large nose, large black moustache, and a closed mouth. His fabric body / tunic is light green. The sleeves are a red fabric with large blue flowers, and small white and green flowers, and the skirt is dark blue with red flowers and green or blue leaves. The fabric is adhered(?) to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny dark green ribbon at the wrists and neck. He holds a small string instrument in his right hand, which has a pink-red strap that extends over his left shoulder. Operated by inserting a hand inside the body of the puppet to control its head and movements.

Mamulengo string puppet (marionette) of a 'Morte' or Death character. Head, hands and feet are carved from wood and painted. The right hand is stylized to resemble the blade of a scythe. He wears a long-sleeved white shirt and white pants, both with black cuffs, a black veil, and black painted boots. The white face has two large black eye sockets, a wide toothy grin, missing nose, and streaks of red across the face. Attached by several black strings to a wooden control bar composed of a single long piece of wood with one cross-bar.
