Carving2913/2

Heavy stone carving of a seal-man figure.Figure is quadripedal and has a rectangular tail pointing up in the air with six thin carved ridges at the end of it. Two of its paws are on the ground, and one covers its face playfully. Its face has two large eyes with circular pupils, a very wide nose, and a large mouth opened into a smile. The mouth also reveals a large set of teeth.

Stonecut print of black image of boat with animals in profile. Boat has one sail and large propellor at stern, and anchor hanging from prow. One dog is steering the ship and one is standing right at the prow. The heads of five other animals are shown in the boat and another is on the mast lookout. Resounding Beat of the Drum2857/2

Horizontally rectangular stonecut and stencil print that covers most of the white paper. The central scene is of two standing figures in profile wearing Inuit clothing, facing each other holding two drums– the top drum is yellow outlined in grey and the bottom is slightly oblong with the image of two faces in profile facing outwards inside the circle. One standing figure holds both drum handles. An arched pattern of dog or wolf heads in profile with open jaws frame the central scene. Hooded human heads in profile form an outer arch around them, with a top centre head facing forward. Background colour of arches, from outside to inside, are: dark blue, brown, light blue, red. There is a red and yellow flame like pattern between the drummers, with a blue background at the bottom. Inscription in pencil along bottom of image, with the yellow Baker Lake 'bow and arrow' printing symbol, followed by Inuit syllabics and a blind embossed stamp. Edition number 30/40.

Grandmother with Ulu2857/4

Vertically rectangular print on off-white paper. Image is a standing, forward-facing woman in traditional Inuit dress, holding a yellow ulu knife with a brown handle in her right hand. Simply drawn face in grey, with linear facial tattoos (three horizontal lines cross the nose; five lines radiate out in a fan-like shape from the bottom of the mouth; and three lines on each side radiate out from the top of the nose across the forehead). Hands and feet are bright orange. Clothing is roughly coloured in brown; bottom tip of parka is outlined in yellow. Inuit syllabics appear in a vertical row at the right of the figure. Edition 2/40. Inscription in pencil under image, giving title, edition, date and artist names. Magicians or Shamans Performing1749/6

Colourful print with eleven faces on it. Central frontal purple human head with a red mouth that extends into the red hoods of a profile black and white human head at either side. Central head also has a black and white profile human head facing one another within at either side. Two diagonally upward brown-grey profile human heads facing downward extend from the top of the central head, one at either side and on top, in between their necks, there are two black and white profile human heads in green hoods facing one another. Two figures are standing, wearing green clothing, on their purple fish tails at the left and right sides of the print. The background, from top to bottom, is in undulating colours of blue, brown, yellow, brown, blue, yellow, brown, and red. In the lower right corner, there is a small yellow image of a right pointing arrow emerging from a bulge pointing to pencilled syllabic. Pencil inscription across the bottom edge reads ‘Magicians or Shamans Performing 45/45 1986 Simon Tookoome / M Noah’. In the lower right corner, there is a circular embossing. We Lived By Animals1749/39

Two humans in profile facing inward at either side of four animals standing in profile facing to the right side. Above, there are three birds, one fish, and implements. The humans are black, white, and grey. From left to right, the animals are the following colours: a black musk ox ?, a brown deer or caribou ?, and two black on white striped animals. From left to right, the birds are the following colours: yellow head and body with white wings, white with black syllabics, and orange and green surrounded by black and white. The turquoise fish is vertically orientated with the head down. The implements are black and white. The inner upper portion of the background is light blue surrounded by orange with red markings overall that are part of the design. In the lower right corner, there is a small yellow image of a right pointing arrow emerging from a bulge pointing to pencilled syllabic. Pencil inscription in the lower right corner reads 'We Lived By Animals 36/42 1975'. In the lower right corner, there is a circular embossing.
