Woman's Parka2963/5

Woman’s seal skin parka (amauti) made of several pieces of fur sewn together with sinew, fur to the outside. A large pouched hood hangs down the back of the parka. A small flap hangs down from the front of the garment, with a larger one at back. Both are edged with a fine hide and fur fringe. The fur is sewn to create decoration such as brown stripes around the arms, across the shoulders at back, and stripes on bottom of the front and back flaps.

Child's Suit2963/1

Child’s one piece seal skin suit made of several pieces of fur sewn together with sinew. The fur is mottled brown and white, with a pattern of naturally occurring white circles down the centre of both front and back. The neck is open to the belly, with several skin and fur ties for fastening. The collar and wrist cuffs are skin on the outside, fur on the inside. A line of long fringe decorates the centre back. The upper inseam of the suit is open.

Boots2963/11 a-b

Man’s seal skin boots made of several pieces of fur in different shades, creating stripes at front and top. Pieces are sewn together with sinew. The top reaches to the knee, with fur to the outside, hide on the inside. A thin rope of sinew is threaded through holes in the top cuff, allowing the boot to be tightened around the leg. The foot of the boot has hide to the outside and fur on the interior.

Short statuette of a billiken type figure on a round pedestal. The figure has high, rounded cheeks, slanted eyes, and tall, pointed ears. The figure’s eyes, nostrils, mouth, hair, nipples and bellybutton are painted black. The bottom portion of the pedestal has a rippled decoration. The sides are carved in shallow relief and have extremely long arms.

Small figure of an old man. The figure has a high forehead, furrowed brow and prominent mustache and beard. The shoulders are hunched forward, with one hand positioned behind his back and the other cupping his ear. There are two holes bored on the underside of the nose for nostrils. The figure is dressed in pants, a tunic, a jacket and pointed slippers. There is a distinct cross hatching pattern in the ivory on his back. The base is somewhat concave.

Short statuette of a billiken type figure. The figure has high, rounded cheeks, slanted eyes, and tall, pointed ears. There are two small scratches on the crown of his head indicating hair. Two holes have been bored into the chest suggesting nipples. A belly button has been carved and painted black on the figure’s rounded stomach. It has shallowly-carved sides with extremely long arms.

Bronze cast of a partial female figure with a dark green-grey marble finish. The figure has wide flaring hips, a deep circular belly button and curves up to an asymmetrical one-breasted chest. Concave one the back with high ridges on the sides. Syllabic character(?) inscribed at back, near base, as well as the edition number 1/3.

Nose Ring2934/2

Brown coloured, circular nose ring cut at the top centre to allow insertion onto the nose. The piece flares and thickens slightly toward the centre bottom. The surface is a mottled brown, covered in thin dark brown cracks.

Box2935/1 a-b

Two piece box covered with a carved design. The inside of both sides has a carved-out area in the shape of small, flat eye glasses. The outer surface of both sides is intricately carved in a pattern of swirling lines and precise squares with small points. Part a, the top, has the face of an animal at either end, with a ridged forehead, large round eyes, a protruding nose, and a wide, open mouth with tongue extending down to chest. The interior is smooth and undecorated. The outer surface of the carved top shows an ochre coloured pigment in parts of the decoration as well as one area that has a bit of white in the design.

Pipe2934/1

A small argillite pipe carved into the shape of a whale. The head is large with a long, closed mouth, rounded snout, and large eyes. Atop the head is the round pipe bowl. Arms extend from the back of the head, bending around the decorated, square torso. Hands grip the base of the tail, which curves up the rear of the pipe to the top, where another set of hands grip the fluke which sits just behind the tobacco chamber. A small hole is bored into the tail at the back, where another part was likely inserted at one time. There are some veins of white visible in the argillite.
