Doll representing a female figure carved out of wood with articulated shoulders and ankles. The doll's face and hands are painted white, with eyes and eyebrows painted in black and the mouth painted in pink. The doll's hair is painted in black on the crown of her head with a braid hanging down her back and adhered to the back of her head. A strip of blue-green silk is braided into the hair, and the braid is tied at the top with a ribbon of burgundy silk. She wears a pink skirt with a white cotton waistband with long ties, tied in a single-loop bow at the front over two pairs of white under trousers with a back slit, the outer pair of which is voluminous. Above this she wears a short greenish-yellow jacket with burgundy outer neck facing and wristbands, and narrower white neck facing. This is tied with burgundy ribbons in a single-loop bow. She wears shoes with pointed, upturned toes painted pink with a black linear and loop design, and socks of white ramie.

Doll figure carved out of wood with articulated shoulders and ankles. The face and hands are painted white, with the eyes and eyebrows painted in black, and the mouth painted in pink. The hair is painted black on the crown of the head with a braid of stiff black hair attached to the back of the head. The hair is braided with a strip of blue-green silk, and the braid is tied at the top with a band of burgundy silk doubled over so that there are no raw edges. The figure is dressed in a pink long-sleeved silk robe with a white neckband, over which is a long gored blue silk vest fastened with a single round glass button and secured with a burgundy silk cord at underarm height. The figure wears pink shoes with black ornamentation, white leg wrappers, and long white underpants with a white loincloth, above which is a short white under-jacket.

Doll depicting a female figure (a) carved out of wood with articulated shoulders and ankles. The doll's face and arms are painted white with the hair, eyes and eyebrows painted in white and the mouth painted in red. Her hair is knotted in a bun at the nape of her neck, secured with a long hairpin and covered with a purple ribbon with four coloured ornaments. Over two pairs of white under trousers with a back slit, the outer pair of which is voluminous, she wears a pleated pink skirt (b) opening at the back with a white fine cotton waistband with long ties, and short green jacket fastening with green ribbons tied in a single loop bow. Over these is a full-length green silk gored coat lined with white silk, white cotton cuffs, outer neck facings that are burgundy, white, and pink from the outside in, and burgundy panels under the arms. At the top of the centre back is pasted a white rectangle that is wider at the lower end. The sides of the coat meet at the centre, and it is tied at the top with double ties in a single loop bow, one pair pink and the other burgundy. Below the ties are three spherical buttons with loop buttonholes. She wears shoes with pointed, upturned toes covered in pink fabric and painted with a black linear and loop decoration.

Tassel OrnamentN3.40 a

An onament made of an elaborately knotted pink cord with a bell and two tassels attached. Above the bell, there is a loop, below which, there is a lozenge-shaped flat knotted shape. Below the bell, there is a smaller looped pattern. The bell is spherical with a slit in the bottom half. The bell is silver-coloured with inlaid discs of blue, purple, blue-green, and yellow enamel each with a Chinese character, and with lines of dots of the same colours in between. The two tassels are attached below the second knotted design. They have multicoloured strands and are wrapped at the top with gold thread that has a pattern picked out of the tassels’ strands on the surface of each wrapped area.

A small flat bag made of dark blue silk damask with an overall pattern of lozenges and small circles. At the top, the blue silk is folded inside where it is sewn with an invisible seam to the white cotton lining. Main body of the bag is shaped like a vertical rectangle with triangular projections on both sides created by folding and holding the folds in place with a circular pink cylindrical cord. The cord ends at the front with elaborate knots, culminating in five loops. Fastened to the three centre loops, there are stuffed triangles, one each of pink, yellow, and light green silk. Attached to the lower edge of each triangle, there are three, four, and five tabs, respectively, of silk fabric in various colours. Each triangle is embroidered with floral motifs and each has pompoms on the side points. The tabs fastening the top point of the yellow and pink triangles to the cord are wrapped in strips of silver and gold paper, respectively.

A small flat bag made of light blue-green and burgundy silk damask embroidered on both sides. At the top, the light blue-green fabric is joined to a red silk lining with an invisible seam held flat by groups of very fine stitches. Main body of the bag is shaped like a vertical rectangle with triangular projections on both sides created by folding and holding the folds in place with a pink cylindrical cord. The lower edge and the triangular projections at the sides of the bag are made of the burgundy silk which has been appliquéd onto the other fabric. Many motifs are embroidered onto the bag, all of which are heavily outlined in bright gold couching, sometimes with double threads. Motifs include stylized waves and rocks on the burgundy part with a swastika on each side at the bottom centre. On the pale blue-green part, there is a stylized Chinese ? character on each side at the top, below which, there is a fungus-like shape on the back. On the front, there is a stylized Chinese ? character, below which, there are two fungus-like shapes. Below this, there are two Chinese ? characters and a fungus-like design coming out of a rainbow-patterned circular form. The pink cord is worked into an elaborate knot ending in four loops and two knotted ends at the front and is knotted forming double loops on the back.

Waist BagN3.34

A small round bag made of red silk damask lined with white cotton fabric. Top of the bag is closed with pleating threaded onto two red cords joined at the ends with elaborate red, and gold knots and four tassels, two at each end. Two tassels are light green and pink while the other two are dark blue and yellow. All tassels are wrapped with gold thread at the top. Each tassel thread ends in a tiny circle. The upper edge of the bag is folder under to join the white cotton lining with an invisible seam. There are embroidered designs, some with gold couching, on both surfaces of the bag. On one side, there are four Korean? characters in different colours, below which, there are floral images. Below them, at the centre, there are two birds facing each other on a rainbow pattern. The other side of the bag is embroidered with pink and yellow flowers on green stems.

One of a pair of embroidered panels on a horizontal rectangle of dark pink silk with a backing of yellow paper that is folded towards the front and pasted in place to form a frame. Each panel is finely embroidered with an arch shape open at the top made up of flowers, leaves, and four multi-coloured butterflies, one of which is near the bottom while the other is near the top of the side of the arch shape. One butterfly is in profile and the other with wings spread. The flowers are predominantly in shades of blue and green. Some details are couched in gold thread. Within the arch are four wide v-shapes of embroidered flowers and leaves opening toward the centre of the panel.
