Printing Block3636/2

Printing stone, or printing block, made of a heavy irregularly-shaped carved stone; stone is predominantly rectangular with a rounded, triangular protrusion from the bottom right corner. Top, bottom, and left sides, and front and back, are smoothly cut; right side has rougher edges and marks from tools. Image from print "It's A Sorcerer" carved in relief across front surface of stone; surface coloured teal from printing process. Image depicts a seated polar bear with two large birds behind it; all done in profile. The bear has four smaller birds protruding from it's head; birds extend from mouth, ear, chin, and back of head. The two birds behind the bear are standing upright, have their wings extended, circular crests on their foreheads, and are facing away from the bear. Semi-circles and curved lines are carved into wings to indicate feathers. Artist signature, written backwards, done in relief in bottom left corner.

It's a Sorceror3636/1

Stonecut print on thin paper; done in horizontal orientation. Print depicts a polar bear with two large birds behind it; all done in profile. The bear, coloured naturally, is seated and has four green birds with orange beaks protruding from around it's head; birds extend from mouth, ear, chin, and back of head. The two birds behind the bear are standing upright, have their wings extended, and their heads facing away from the bear; done in black with white details throughout, indicating feathers, and with circular red crests on their foreheads. Place made, Eskimo Western Arctic, date made, title, and edition number, 32/50, written in pencil along bottom of print. Artist signature printed in black above pencil inscription. (Attached to dark brown matboard frame.)

String Puppet3472/15

String puppet of a peasant man character. He has carved and painted brown hair, dark red lips and brown eyes. On his head he wears a fur hat with dark purple and red felt floral decorations on the side. He wears a long off-white coat with ribbed texture, notched lapel and collar, faux hip pockets and four large black buttons. Underneath he wears gold pants that end below the knee with red ties on the sides. He has tall carved boots painted black. The control stick is attached to his head by a long metal rod, with strings extending from the control stick to limbs. The body is jointed at the elbows, knees, shoulders, and hips – with fabric upper arms.

String Puppet3472/14

String puppet of a nobleman character. The nobleman has carved and painted brown beard, moustache and chin-length hair, pink cheeks and blue eyes. He wears a long reddish-orange robe with off-white lace around the sleeve's cuffs and a small green fabric panel with gold edging and gold tassels pinned to the waist with two honeycomb-patterned metal pins. The robe is kept together by three snap closures. Overtop, he wears a matching reddish-orange cape with lace collar that is pinned together at the neck with another honeycomb-patterned metal pin. He has tall carved boots painted red with gold cuffs. The control stick is attached to his head by a long metal rod, with strings extending from the control stick to limbs. The body is jointed at the elbows, knees, shoulders, and hips – with fabric upper arms.

String Puppet3472/11

String puppet of a drunk man character. He wears a dark brown button-up coat with a red lining and metal buttons - two on the front closure (one gold, one silver), and one gold button on each sleeve cuff. Under the coat he wears a white shirt with floral embroidery. He wears short light brown tweed-like pants that end at his calves and are rolled up at the cuff. He wears tall black boots. He has a grey moustache of adhered hair and a bald head, which is covered by a black hat with a short black rim, and red band. His face is sunken, with small deep set dark eyes and a bulbous red nose. His neck, arms, and legs are all green, and his feet are webbed with red claws. His hands, legs and face are carved with his right hand posed like it should be grasping something. Puppet is moved by a wooden control, with strings attached to head, shoulders, hands and knees.

String Puppet3472/12 a-c

String puppet of a robber character (part a) with removable pistol (part b) and wooden stake (part c). He wears a long-sleeved white with grey patterned shirt with a black and brown speckled vest over top. He wears a red paisley scarf tied around his neck with a long black velvet cape over top. He wears long black pants with a large plaid patch and brown stitching over tall slouchy brown boots. In his right hand he holds a carved and painted black pistol with a metal trigger and hammer spur. Around his waist he wears a belt with a holster on his left hip and brown pouch (carved of wood). Tucked into the belt is a long wooden stake. In his right hand he holds a gun. He has a red-brown moustache, beard and ear-length hair. His face is red, with hazel eyes and a hooked red nose. His hands, legs and face are carved. Puppet is moved by a metal control rod with a wooden crossbeam, with strings attached to head, shoulders, hands and knees.

On his head he wears a carved and painted green hat with a brown band and large carved feather. He wears a light brown long-sleeved shirt with a dark brown vest overtop with a beige, red and black plaid scarf. He wears navy blue pants with many patches and red ties on the sides that end below the knee. He has tall carved boots painted black. The tunic has a metal gold belt and a large bright blue plastic(?) jewel decoration adhered to a shield-shaped textile on his chest. The tunic and pants are hemmed with bronze embroidery ribbon. He wears a long red cape with off-white fur collar. He has painted light grey-blue socks and brown shoes. He has pink lips, blue eyes, and reddish-brown ear-length hair, moustache and beard. On top of his head is a red and blue and yellow crown. His hands, legs and face are carved. The control stick is attached to the head by a long metal rod, with strings extending from the control stick to limbs. String Puppet3472/25

Small string puppet of a male character. He wears a long purple robe that is cinched at the waist, with a black and gold panel insert on the front of the skirt. The tunic has gold embroidery ribbon trim down the front of the top, around the waist, bordering the panel, in three rings around the sleeves, and around the hem. The long sleeves each have a thin cape overtop that is purple with black and gold lining. Under the tunic he wears black pants. He has painted white socks and gold shoes. He has red lips, green eyes, blue eyelids, and chin-length black hair, moustache and a pointed beard that greys towards the ends. He has greyish-pink skin and a large hooked nose. On top of his head is a tall red cylindrical hat composed of painted paper that is taped together and nailed to the head. His hands, legs and face are carved. The control stick is attached to the head by a long metal rod, with strings extending from the control stick to limbs. The body is jointed at the elbows, knees, shoulders, and hips – with fabric upper arms.
