Plank Mask3420/30 a-b

Plank mask (part a) with circular face and tall, vertical superstructure. The white face has two widely spaced concentric circle eyes, and a small tubular mouth, both within a ring of repeating red triangles. There is a black with red tip downward-curving projection attached to the diamond-shaped panel above the head. Diamond-shaped panels connect both ends of the long rectangular board. The board is painted with geometric and zoomorphic shapes in black or dark red on a white background. Surmounted by a crescent-shape. Long brown plant fibre hair (part b) is attached across the back of the face mask, and hangs down.

Plank Mask3420/28

Plank mask with circular face and tall, vertical superstructure. The face has two large concentric circle eyes outlined in repeating triangles, and a large tubular mouth. A diamond-shaped panel, with a black rectangle and off-centred white circle within, connects the mask to the long rectangular board. The board is painted with geometric shapes in dark brown-red and black on a white background. Surmounted by a crescent-shape.

Door3420/50

Wooden door carved with central design of one row of two human figures flanking three Kanaga masks, two rows of five large human figures separated by geometric lines. The sides mirror each other, and each have a bird-like creature, a spear, and one large serpent. There are also geometric lines across the top and bottom, and metal joins at top and bottom holding together the two pieces of wood that the door is made from. There are some remnants of white pigment.

Mask3420/22

Carved and painted mask. The rectangular face section has two sunken rectangular areas on either side of the nose ridge, two rectangular cutout eye holes, and small pointed ears. The forehead is decorated with X's, creating a repeating diamond and triangle design that continues down each side of the face. The designs are painted dark red and black. The superstructure is a female figure with projecting breasts, square shoulders, arms bent at the elbow and held out to the sides. Her left forearm is shaped like a large ladle. She is wearing a red fibre skirt. She has red crest-like hair, and an earring in her left ear.

Mask3420/19

Mask carved from wood. The face is sunken, with a raised nose ridge down the centre of the face. There are two small rectangular cutouts for eyes. High on either side of the head are two long appendages. A long beak-like structure extends from the forehead, and again up from the centre of the head. There are areas where pigment is still visible.

Headdress3420/12

Headdress or helmet carved from wood and painted. The dome-shaped helmet is painted dark red, and is decorated with a face on one side. The face has a long black nose, two white slits for eyes, arched orange-brown eyebrows, and a rectangular mouth with teeth bared. On each cheek and above the eyebrows are three marks. Two small pointed ears extend out on either side, and two larger off-white horn-like appendages extend up from behind the ears. Each horn has three horizontal lines and the tips are pierced. Standing on top centre is a small humanoid figure. On the opposite side is a blue lizard. There are holes drilled through around the rim.

Ceramic vessel with a black and dark red burnished surface. The body is divided into three sections by two raised horizontal lines. The bottom third is not polished and is heavily marked with repeating angled incised lines. Large lizard and beetle figures alternate around the centre section. The mouth is circular, with raised and flared lip, and the base rounded.

Vessel3420/5

Ceramic vessel with a dark red surface that is heavily decorated with incised designs. The body is spherical, with two small decorative handles on opposite sides. The incised designs repeat within horizontal bands around the vessel. There are three raised bands above the foot, one at the shoulder, and another at the lip. The neck is long, flaring out to a circular mouth. The base rounded with a raised foot.

Altar Vessel3420/1 a-b

Ceramic vessel and lid with a light red-brown surface and raised bumps all over. The body is somewhat spherical, with a hemisphere extending from the shoulder. The mouth is rectangular, and the base has a raised foot. The lid (part b) is rectangular at the bottom, with the handle shaped like a human head, centred within two rows of raised bumps.
