Raven RattleA4126

Brown wood rattle with the top piece in the form of a raven that has a reclining figure on its back connected to a frog by a protruding tongue and the bottom piece in the shape of a rounded semi-oval emphasized with a whale design. Handle is bound with green. Raven has black ovoid in ovoid eyes surrounded by a tapering oval and a green area with black brows above. The beak is black with an open red mouth holding a red ball. The back has vertical black dashes with black wings that have a green ovoid in a black ovoid, a red and green split u within a black split u that has a black ovoid within, a green and red split u, and a red ovoid at the tip. The tail is in reverse with four feathers that have an inverted black split u coming from a downward pointing green triangle connected to the back that has a small bird's face with circular black eyes surrounded by a plain tapering oval and a green area, red nostrils, a red mouth, and a pair of inverted green split u's and horizontal red dashes below along with two green wrists that have five red claws. The reclining human on top has a red body and a plain face with circular black eyes surrounded by a plain tapering oval and a green area with black brows above, a red nose, and a red mouth where the red tongue of the green frog connects. The bottom piece that is the belly of the raven has a face with green eyes at the bottom with green and red split u's at along either side and red dots and dashes within and around a green shape that has red accents.

Half of a large mussel shell that has been broken and glued back together. The outer surface of the shell is off-white near the hinge, and dark brown over the remainder. The inside surface is slightly polished and iridescent.

Skirt or apron made from alternating strips of yellow cedar bark folded double and secured with eight rows of cedar running horizontally creating a plate-like pattern. One side has a braided cedar tie with a small, cylindrical piece of wood attached that fits through the loop opening on the opposite side. The skirt has split down the middle and been stitched together with black cotton twine.

WhistleA3828

Brown wood whistle that is square in cross section and bound in three sections with brown twine, two near each end and one near the middle. While the wider end is solid, there is one hollow through the smaller end where there is a taper cut semi-oval hole nearby on one side. Above the hole, a Dzunuk'wa head is carved and painted red while a teepee with a cross is carved underneath. On the other side, the letters 'NANDZT' and 'R' are carved lightly.
