Pudding Knife2832/8

Carved black-brown pudding knife. Paddle-shape blade is flat and oblong, narrow at base tapering outwards to a rounded tip. Hilt is formed of three discs: two outer discs are larger and taper to narrow rims and the centre disc is smaller with a rounded rim. Above the hilt is a cylindrical shaft encircled with a raised lip that forms v shapes on two sides; above this on two sides are two inlaid white opalescent circular shell eyes with incised V shapes at their outer sides; an incised line encircles the shaft above the faces; then there is a raised notched rim, followed by an oblong knife top decorated on two sides by stepped raised oblongs, small at the centre and progressively larger towards outer edges; the top centre oblong edge is serrated.

Pudding Knife2832/7

Carved dark brown-black wooden pudding knife. Paddle-shape blade is flat and broad at base tapering to a pointed end. Above the blade there is a hilt with one upward facing and one downward facing head on each outer side. Faces have inlaid white opalescent shell eyes and mouths. Heads are edged with a sinuous raised line that crosses to form an X on the top and bottom hilt sides. Handle is cylindrical tapering outwards to the end with a flat top. Tied around the handle is a dark brown-black braided plant fibre string knotted at the end to form a loop.

Carved wooden pudding knife. Paddle-shape blade is flat and broad at base tapering to a pointed end. Above the blade there is a hilt /handle bordered with oblong shapes containing nine stacked flat circular shapes of decreasing size from the largest circle closest to blade to the smallest closest to top. Each circle has two circular holes (eyes), and the knife is topped with a tall oblong hat-like shape with brim.

Carved wooden pudding knife. Paddle-shape blade is flat and broad at base tapering to a pointed end. Above the blade there is a hilt/handle comprised of three sections bordered with oblong shapes; the first two sections closest to the blade are lozenge shaped with the same shape openings; the third section is an oval with two half-oval openings. The knife has a diamond shaped top with a crescent opening.

Ariki - Futunese Tribal Governing System2832/1

Ceramic pot with three vertical protrusions coming out of the top. The pot is round and glazed in multiple hues of brownish-grey. The pot is topped with three protrusions, into which three sanded and stained wood branch-like pieces (two slightly curved and one bent and curved at an angle between the other two) have been inserted and wrapped at their bases with light brown braided natural fibre twine. Each "branch" is topped with a curved wild-boar tusk.

Nokoro Spirit Mask2814/9

Long, rectangular, brown mask. The sack-like mask is made of tree bark stitched along either side. The top of the mask folds over behind the head and has a dark brown fringe made of bark strips which cascades down the back like hair. Two eyeholes are made at the bottom of the mask, below the face. The face of the mask is a large oval made of dried black resin, painted with white and yellow features and geometric patterns. It has a large circle with a flower pattern on the forehead, circle eyes, triangle mouth and semi-circles on the cheeks and chin. The nose is missing and eyebrows have broken off.

Blowgun2814/57

Blowgun with long cylindrical palm wood shaft, hollow on the inside. A second round hollow tube of wood has been inserted fully into the bottom end of the shaft, and is held in place with resin and adhesive. Shaft is circled by ever-closer naturally occurring growth rings from top to bottom. At top is a flared hollow mouthpiece attached to the shaft with resin. Close to the shaft’s top is a rounded protrusion of resin holding two thin strips of wood(?) that are orange and white in colour.
