Waistband2763/15

Long woven band to be worn around the waist. Two panels of light coloured grass, with open mesh-work at both ends that finishes in braids and loose, tassel-like fibres, are woven together lengthwise, the seam invisible on one side. Purple designs, stamped onto one side only, cover the middle area and both ends are dyed purple with the tassels yellow.

Basket or bag with square-shaped base and tassels at the corners, woven from turquoise and white dyed grasses. The design created is of diamonds within diamonds and a band of small white diamonds runs around the rim. A braided border around the top rim extends into four long braids on each side that are all knotted together and the grass left loose at the ends.

Basket2763/4

Basket or bag with square base and circular rim woven from light coloured grasses. A design of squares around the rim and diagonal bands in the body is created by weaving together four different tones of beige. A tightly braided border around the rim extends up, at each side, into five smaller braids that join together into one long thicker braid; the two braids are knotted together and left loose at the end in long tassels.

Helmet Mask2761/1

Cylindrical dark brown wooden initiation mask that pulls down over the head. Triangular shaped face with pointed chin, small ears, and rounded brow is carved into the front beneath an elaborately ridged hair style or headdress. The face is framed with a band of thin ridges, behind which large thick ridges and a crown ? run back to end in a circle of rounded knobs at the crown of the head. There are cut-outs at the eyes, a large opening at the back, and two bands of punched holes around the base.

Imperfect Doll2699/1 a-c

Multi-media installation. The doll (a) consists of a wooden artist’s maquette body with brain-tanned deer hide head (no facial features), hand coverings, and dress (with fringes at sleeves and decorated with English and Cree text written in pink gel-pen ink), pink and yellow cut-glass seed beads sewn onto dress and moccasin boots, horse hair braids with white satin ribbon, ncecklace of porcupine quill, brass bead and sinew, clam shell earrings, and a belt with large brass buttons. The doll sits in a chair (part b) constructed of deer hide, wood, and sinew, and face a small LCD screen, which fastens to a wooden base (part c), and plays a video loop, with video and audio footage created by the artist.

Wooden boar-fish carving with painted designs. The fish-like body (a) has fins and a tail. It is painted with large orange, yellow circles surrounded by white dots on black ground. The pig-like head has an upturned snout stuck through with a pole decorated with feathers (b,c), and pointed tusks. It is painted with orange, white designs on yellow ground. There are three kinds of shells arranged from the tip of the snout, down the spine to the tail. There is a large ornate shell and a line of black feathers on the forehead.

Pink painted wooden carving of Adão (Adam) holding a large green fig-leaf (part b) over his genitals, with blue painted eyes and red lips. The figure has hair on his head, around his pubic area, and for eyelashes, moustache and goatee, which is made of a mixture of curly stands of dark hair and a thick resin-like substance. The standing figure is nailed to a circular green base and has arms that rotate. (Pair with "Eva", 2843/21).

Mask made of light painted metal. Eyes, mouth and nose are cut-outs, with a piece of folded metal soldered on in three spots over the nose and two very pointed yellow, black and white horns attached on the forehead. The face is black and has red sideburns, eyes, moustache and V design on the forehead; the back in painted gray.

Dance Apron2747/1

"Tofua" dance apron . Basketry top panel is of light grass, with a zigzag pattern woven into it, around which is inter-woven an acrylic blue wool border and a twisted green and yellow wool band. The hanging grass strands below the panel have been unraveled in spots and shredded into long thin fibres in others.
