Nokoro Spirit Mask2814/2

Long, rectangular, brown mask. The sack-like mask is made of tree bark stitched along either side. The top of the mask folds over behind the head and has a dark brown fringe made of bark strips which cascades down the back like hair. Two eyeholes are made at the bottom of the mask, below the face. The face of the mask is a large oval made of dried black resin, painted with white and yellow features and geometric patterns. The mouth is a triangle, the cheeks and forehead have semi-circles and there are horizontal lines on the eyebrows. The face has protruding triangular nose and eyebrows made of balsa wood.

Pudding Knife2832/3

Carved wooden pudding knife. Paddle-shape blade is flat and broad at base tapering to a pointed end. Above the blade there is a hilt/handle comprised of 3 sections bordered with oblong shapes. The section closest to the blade is a lozenge shape with two triangular openings; the middle section has two facing crescent shapes connected with a central rectangle of wood; the third section is an oval with two half-oval openings. The knife is capped with an eye-shaped opening with a serrated top.

Carved wooden pudding knife. Paddle-shape blade is flat and broad at base tapering to a pointed end, above the blade there is a hilt comprised of two oblong shapes bordering a lozenge shape with two triangular openings. Above the hilt is a cylindrical handle tipped with an oblong knob and forked V with serrated edges.

Ceremonial Adze2838/1 a-b

Carved ceremonial adze with small carved stand (part b) to hold blade for upright display. Adze is decorated mainly in three sections: at the top appear to be two entwined creatures, both with circular shell eyes; at centre of handle is another carved creature with circular shell eyes, and another is carved at the butt end. Adze has a long narrow dark green stone blade, which is lashed to the handle with a light yellow-white twine. The stand is wood with a slot carved for the blade and decorative designs carved into the sides.

Open rimmed birch bark basket, sewn at sides with pale yellow root strips and stitched around rim with pieces of reddish-brown bark underneath and woven into strips of pale yellow root. Shield2861/1

Large, old, wooden shield, re-painted with an image of a character called "Phantom Man" over most of the front surface. The superhero’s torso is depicted, clothed in a tight purple head cover and shirt that emphasizes his musculature. A blue, black and white belt sits at his waist. Hands and face are white and he wears large black framed, grey lensed glasses. Behind him, the surface of the shield is painted orange through which can be seen decorative perforations in circular and linear designs. "PHANTOM" is written in large red letters across the top of the shield, and above this are vine strips and a few feathers tied around the top edge. The reverse side of the shield is unpainted and has a loop of braided vine attached at the centre, with another attached in two places on the left side. Image colours are orange, purple, red, white, black and blue.
