Raven RattleNb3.1473 a-b

Rattle with two complementary parts in the form of raven (a). A reclining red figure with a green face and black ears on raven's back is connected to another bird head near the handle by a protruding tongue. The rattle sits with its handle in a stand that protrudes diagonally from a rectangular block of wood with bevelled edges and a red painted design (b).

Headdress that tapers to a spiked segment with a tuft of off-white and brown feathers at the top and has four faces around the base with two protruding, tapering and curved arms opposite each other just below the spiked segment. Tufts of plant fibre attached through holes along the bottom edge. Painted with white, black, orange-brown, and yellow details and geometric designs.

Headdress on four posts with overall conical shape, a spiked rim and four evenly spaced bands of spikes made with leaves running up the bottom tier, four arms with double sarrated edges at the top of the bottom tear each protruding out at an angle with dangling elongated shapes at the tips, and the tip is ornamented with fibre that splays outwards just below a guft of short brown and white feathers and two long, curved black feathers. The posts are covered with fibres attached around each post just below the rim of the headdress. The headdress is clay painted with off-white, reddish-brown and black geometric designs.

Pair of lozenge-shaped sandals made from woven straw(?) with a twined fabric thong. Thong straps are made from pink and white fabric and sparkly blue fabric twisted together. Thong is attached to the sole with twined white plastic. Toe is reinforced with plaid blue, white and burgundy material.

Pair of brown leather mittens joined by a grey and ecru braided woolen cord. Dark brown fur trim around the top and the middle of the mitts, with bands of alternating green and white curving ribbon sewn between the trim on the top side. Leather fringe down one side of each mitt.

Light blue and dark blue knotted and beaded fringes separating two small rectangular panels on either side, with a design consisting of a green diamond shape surrounded by white outlined by black with a a purple triangle at each corner. Along the top, there is a five part green shape outlined by black and white. Below, there are three box shapes with the central one having a four-pointed purple shape with a blue triangle at each upper corner and a green triangle at each lower corner and each of the side boxes having a smaller four-pointed green shape with a downward pointing purple arrow at the outer upper corner. Below, there is a band with a central dark blue diamond shape that has, at either side, an outward pointing purple arrow, a green hour glass shape, and two inward pointing green arrows. Below, there is a thin dark blue band outlined by black. On canvas backing.

Chief's mask with wrinkled brow and nose, elongated eye slits, angular cheeks, and a mouth with lips open baring two rows of teeth. The mask is painted or stained grey with the edges of the eyes, the nostrils, and the lips painted red. Long strands of black hair emerge from the top edge of the mask.

Rectangular beaded apron. Black, white, blue, red, green, and yellow beadwork on the canvas backing. Main design is consisting of an elongated clear light blue trapezoid above a white geometric shape that has a red diamond shape within, a three-stepped green shape at either side, and a horizontal dark blue rectangle. There is a pair or red triangles above the trapezoid and a pair of yellow triangles below. All shapes are outlined by black on a white background. The design is bordered by a row of black, then a row of green. Above the main beadword design, there is a horizontal zig zag row of alternating clear yellow and black bead sections on a piece of black fabric.
