The top has two arms that protrude upwards joined by a crossbar for a handle, and a stopper (b) that fits into a hole in the top surface near the edge. It is covered in dark grey-green lacquer with red lacquer on the top surface and inner surfaces of the arms as well as the sides of the stopper.

Six twisted bamboo bands secure the staves, two near the top and four at the bottom. The top (c) has a stopper (b) that fits into a hole near the edge. Stained reddish-brown with black painted Japanese characters on the outside of each arm. Painted with a red band across the top. The base (d) is loose in the container.

Some painting on features; carved in a sophisticated style. Japanese calligraphy on the back; writing includes the name of a place: Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture (神奈川県鎌倉). Usually shown as a pair with Ebisu (N2.975).
